PROCEDURE:
A. Review:
Elements of a Short Story

B. Motivation:
Task: Feet note
Instruction: The teacher will hide sayings written on a paper at the foot of each student’s chair.
There will be draw lots. Whoever name will be called will share their own thoughts or experience
in relation to the sayings found beneath their chair.

A. Lesson Proper
a. “A Footnote to Youth” is written by Jose Garcia Villa a Filipino poet, literary critic, short story
writer, and painter. He was awarded the National Artist of the Philippines title for literature in
1973.
b. Watch a short video of “A Footnote to Youth”
While reading, the students are asked to follow through the given questions/pointers.
 Who should be giving an advice about married life, the one who committed a mistake or
the one who did not?
 Why is it situated in province?
 When did Dodong realize that he is still so young?
 What stops Dodong from giving an honest advice to Blas?
 What might happen to Blas?
c. Discussion
1. Exposition - It is the beginning of a story
2. Rising Action - It is a series of relevant incidents that create suspense, interest, and tension
in a narrative
3. Climax - It is the most intense, exciting, or important point of something
4. Falling Action - Wraps up the narrative, resolves its loose ends, and leads towards the
closure
5. Denouement - It is the resolution of the issue of a complicated plot in fiction.
EVALUATION:
Make a timetable or plan of your life.

Interview your mother and father about their married life.
1. What age did you have your first boyfriend/girlfriend?
2. Did your parents forbid you to have a relationship with the opposite sex at a young age? What
was their reason if yes?
3. What was your thought about the rules set by your parents about having a relationship? (if any)
4. What attracted you to Mother/Father?
5. What age did you get married?
6. Why did you get married?
7. What are the challenges you faced in the early stage of your married life?
8. What are the challenges you faced when you had your first child?
9. What made you go through it all?
10. Will you do again what you have done if you were given a chance? If you can change
something, what would it be?
