DEFINITION OF SEMANTICS AND THE STUDY OF MEANING

Semantic is the study of meaning in which to keep an expression in

language. Semantics contrast with syntax which is semantics representation of
must be fixed. Related to semantics is the field of pragmatic, which studies the
practical use of signs. Semantics may also the theoretical study of meaning in
system of signs.

Semantics generally recognize two sorts of meaning that an expression may

have: the relation that the expression broken down into its constituent parts
(signs), and the relation the signs have to other signs.

Most theorists refer to the relation between a sign and its object, as always
including any manner of objective reference, as its denotation. Some theorists
refer to the relation between a sign and the signs that serve in its practical
interpretation as its connotation, but there are many more difference of opinions
and distinctions of theory that are made in this case.

For example:

1. All reds are colors.

2. I love my self, likewise you.
3. The dog hits her

The sentence makes sense (1) contrast in the first sentence many people know that
the word reds sure describe the kinds of words colors. (2) The problems are
semantics such as ambiguous (indication at myself). “I Love my self” and “I love
you”, or “I love myself” and “you love yourself”. (3) In third sentence is formed
syntactically so in syntax the third sentence as well. But in semantics is different
than syntax, the thing that impossible the dogs can hits her. Its meaning is
anomalous sentence.

The sentence may be related to each other because the sentence mean
exactly the same thing or because on implies the other. There is something wrong
with the meaning of a sentence, such as contradictory, anomalous, ambiguous or
vague means.
