Instructions

On the "Transformer" sheet

1 Set the turns to 60 in both coils
2 Adjust the primary voltage to 1, 2, 3 V etc. completing the table headed 60:60 turns ratio as you go
3 Adjust the secondary turns to 120, and repeat step 2 for the 60:120 table
4 Adjust the turns ratio and then complete the third table.
5 Plot a graph of primary voltage against secondary voltage (you may do all three on one graph)
7 Adjust the turns ratio to 40:100. Predict the output voltage for 2V input, then test your prediction.

On the "Power Lines" sheet

1 Set the "voltage generated" to 200V, the turns ratio to 3:1, and the wire to "thin"
2 The transmission voltage is now 600V-why? Answer on sheet.
3 The power input in the table is given as 2000W, again why? Answer on sheet.
4 Note the power received is 333W, (entered in the table) and the spreadsheet has calculated the efficiency.
5 Complete the table by altering the turns ratio used.
6 Plot a graph of turns ratio v efficiency
7 By altering one factor at a time, investigate the effect of using a different voltage and different wire.
Use the 2nd and 3rd tables for your results. Plot graphs and write conclusions on the sheet.
8 You may choose what else to investigate. Use the fourth table for your results
