THE RESEARCH METHOD AND PROCEDURE

Research Method

For the purposes of this research, the researchers used the descriptive

method to target the establishment and render factual evidences and to provide

in depth study of the phenomenon as a basis to examine and support our

hypothesis. The researchers also used the quantitative method to examine

statistical significance and to furnish a greater level of validity of the study among

the specified number of population.

Research Environment

The study takes place in St. Alphonsus Catholic School (Lapu -Lapu City,

Cebu) high school department that was that was founded in 1916 by Rev. Fr.

Mateo O’ Callaghan, a redemptorist father who named it in honor of their

founder, St. Alphonsus de Liguori. Since 2010, the DOLSH sisters have taken

the responsibility to manage SACS in accordance with the policies and standard

set by the Department Of Education and the Philippine Accrediting Association of

Schools, Colleges, and Universities or PAASCU. In 2016, SACS celebrated her

centennial jubilee.

Research Respondents

St. Alphonsus Catholic School has the general population of 1,637 Junior

High School students. In this study, the researchers considered only 322
20

students from all grade levels and were chosen to be the respondents of the

research with the use of the stratified random sampling.

Research Instrument

The researchers used questionnaire for the research instrument in their

study. It can be sliced up into two parts. The first part was the respondent’s

profile and the second part were the questions that the respondents will answer.

Research Procedure

The researchers started by learning and analyzing the problem that can

be researchable and then doing the library research. Next, the researchers

planned the study. Afterwards, the research instrument was carefully developed

and then the data were accumulated and analyzed. Lastly, the conclusions and

recommendations were made.

Treatment of Data

The researchers made use of statistical treatments. The simple

percentage, weighted mean, and the Sloven’s formula are used to determine the

proportion and trend of the opinion of the respondents.

The formulas are:

Simple Percentage: % = ƒ/ Nx100

Where

% -Percentage
21

ƒ -Frequency

N -Total population

100 - Constant

Weighted Mean: WM = ∑(ƒW)/N

Where:

∑ - Sum

ƒ -Frequency

W - Weight

N - Total Population

Sloven’s Formula: n = N / (1+ Ne²)

Where:

n - Sample size

N – Population’s Size

e – Margin of Error
