Universal Design for Learning (UDL): BrainPOP is a website that provides videos to explain educational
concepts. BrainPOP is for students ranging in age from pre-k to 8th grade. There is also an ELL version for
Spanish and French speakers. These video tutorials are great for visual and auditory learners and provides
closed captioning.

Lesson idea implementation:

LEVEL 3
Ask students “What do you think fossils are?”. Lead in with a BrainPOP video about fossils. After showing the
video ask the students to pick out their favorite fossil in the video. Have students share their interest with the
class and then split students into groups according to the fossil that intrigues them the most.

Have students research that fossil and how it is made. Using their findings have students use iMovie and
make their own movie on how their fossil was made. Once the students are done with their iMovie each
group will come up and present their finished product.
Reflective Practice: A goal for down the road would be to take the class on a field trip to the Fernbank
Museum to show them real live fossils.
