Artifact #4- Philosophy of Education

Becoming a teacher was never my intentions or goal growing up. I always had a plan, but that all

changed when I was presented with the opportunity to help volunteer in my mothers’ classroom. My

mom is an SPTA in a high school class, and after just a few months of getting to know her students all of

my intentions changed. Working with her and the other teachers inspired me and made me realize a

new interest. It also reminded me of how grateful I was for the teachers that I had through my years of

school. I discovered my passion for students and love for teaching. With the time that I have been able

to spend volunteering in the classroom with my moms’ students I have gained experience and

knowledge. Most importantly I have developed my purpose; seeing the students grow, learn, and

develop a trust for me is why I am meant to teach. With having experience in the classroom before and

while in school, I have a great understanding of what the complexities of teaching include. With the

different challenges that teachers face, I am ready to overcome them and do all that I can to be there

for the students.

My philosophy is dictated by the student’s outcomes. I believe that students’ success and future

are the most important. I will do my best to guide students to create or discover their best. Following

standards students will learn all that is required and more. Students need a balanced education that

includes all subjects, life skills, respect, and purpose. Students have many paths that they can follow,

and I am determined to help them find the right one for them. School needs to be a safe place for

children to develop and want to be. It is up to the educator to create that for students and I plan to do

so.
It is important that students are taught with positive habits so that in return they utilize the

positive habits. Students need organization, punctuality, options, independence, skill, and adaptability. I

will adapt organization into the classroom by implementing clear directions, due dates, and

expectations. Students need to use and understand organization within their academics and daily life so

that they have a set structure to follow. I will use punctuality not only with what I expect from them but

also what they expect from me. I will be on time to class each day and have grade or answers to them

when they were told they would be given. I will provide options as far as how they are taught, students

do not all learn the same way, so I will help with giving them different ways of learning. I will teach

students independence by guiding them but not doing things for them. Students will learn skill not only

in their academics, but also in their life skills. It is important that students have knowledge in all subjects

in school, and qualities to help them in life. Lastly, students will be taught adaptability. Students will

need to learn to adjust to change and challenges.

Moving forward in this career I need possess reason, passion, knowledge, and skill. I need to

keep my reason for wanting to pursue this career in mind. I also need to continue to have passion for

the students and their education. I must continue to develop my knowledge for educating students and

my own knowledge. Lastly, I will need to continue to develop my skill in how I create lessons, assist

students, and develop my knowledge. I plan to continue my education at College of Southern Nevada,

keep volunteering in classrooms, graduate with my Associate in Elementary Education, further my

education at Nevada State College, graduate with my Bachelors in Elementary Education and

concentration in Special Education, and find employment in Clark County School District.
