FLATIRON BUILDING

The building, which has been called "one of the world's most iconic skyscrapers
and a quintessential symbol of New York City", anchors the south (downtown) end of
Madison Square and the north (uptown) end of the Ladies' Mile Historic District. The
neighborhood around it is called the Flatiron District after its signature building,
which has become an icon of New York City. The Flatiron Building was designated a
New York City landmark in 1966, was added to the National Register of Historic
Places in 1979, and was designated a National Historic Landmark in 1989.

In our opinion Flatiron Building can't to be build in Indonesia because many aspect
abaout it.

1. Social aspects
Flatiron building is a building with a unique architecture. Built at a crossroads
add to the uniqueness of the building. In Indonesia something unique can be hot news.
Thus, the building has a strong appeal to domestic and foreign tourists to simply
capture the moment in that place. Therefore the roads around it will be crowded. The
crowd is usually difficult to control. Disruption of road access around the place causes
losses for road users.

2. Environment aspects
Indonesia is a country that has a high earthquake potential. In Indonesia the
construction of earthquake resistant buildings is also still minimal. Considering the
tall and slim shape of the Flatiron Building, if the construction is not accompanied by
earthquake resistance the risk of damage to the building is very large. High rise
buildings also require large amounts of clean water, while water supply is lacking.
Finally, the owners of the multi-storey building conducted a massive groundwater
extraction without supervision. As a result, land subsidence is very high. That is rife
in Indonesia, especially in big cities like Jakarta.

3. Weather aspects
Flatiron building has a triangle shape that is deliberately designed to be resistant
to wind exposure up to four times. So if seen from this, the building is suitable if it is
built in Indonesia which has a strong wind intensity. However, the problem of
reflection of solar radiation reflection and thermal effects also contribute to increasing
the ambient temperature of the environment due to the use of glass (Glass High Rise
Building). In Indonesia which is a tropical country with quite hot weather causes the
use of air conditioning in buildings which can cause global warming.
