When operating a device, obey local rules and regulations. Corrosion
Personnel Anti-corrosion measures are required if an RTN 980L is installed in a location that is prone to corrosion. Contact
your local Huawei office for details. A location is prone to corrosion if it is:
Installation and maintenance personnel must be trained to perform operations correctly and safely. Within 3.7 km (12139 ft ) of an ocean or a salt water lake
Within 3 km ( 9843 ft ) of a heavy pollution source, such as a smelting factory or coal mine
Elevated locations
Within 2 km ( 6562 ft ) of a medium pollution source, such as a chemical, rubber, or electroplating plant
Within 1 km ( 3281 ft ) of a light pollution source, such as a food or leather processing plant or industrial
The RTN 980L is usually installed in an elevated location, such as on the roof of a building. Adhere to the following boiler
guidelines for installations in elevated locations:
Installation personnel must have the proper training and qualifications, and meet health requirements. Microwave
Installation personnel must wear helmets and safety belts and should work in pairs or teams.
Do not work in high places during thunderstorms, blizzards, gales, or other extreme weather conditions. When High-power radio frequency signals are harmful. Avoid exposure to transmissions from the antennas of

All installation personnel and visitors onsite must wear helmets.
Before hoisting heavy objects, clear the area to avoid hurting anyone nearby. Before installing or removing an IF cable, turn off power switch.
Before hoisting heavy objects, ensure that the hoisting tools are complete
and in good condition.
Before hoisting heavy objects, ensure that the hoisting tools are fixed to a
secure object or wall with good weight-bearing capacity. Max 90°
Ensure that the angle between the two lifting slings is less than or equal to
90 degrees during the hoisting, as shown in the figure.

Installation Precautions in a Harsh Environment
When outdoor equipment or cabinets are installed in a harsh environment, ensure that the following requirements
are met:
If glue dispensing is not done on the rivets or screws of the center plate and reflective surface of an
antenna before delivery, apply matching outdoor adhesive to them.
Apply thread adhesive to screws used for installing antennas. This can prevent the screws from becoming
loose and improve corrosion resistance.
After you finish installing screws, spread oil or spray paint on the surface of the screws.
In areas with many birds, install protective covers to prevent birds' droppings from corroding antennas.

Pole requirements
A pole must meet the following requirements:
A pole must be able to withstand the total weight of the antenna, branching uniting, and RFU. When installing a branching unit and an antenna onto one pole, adjust the distance (h2) between the

In the SD configuration, the elliptical waveguide is connected to the antenna through a flexible waveguide.
1 After verifying that the flexible waveguide and the waveguide cavity of the branching unit or antenna are in the same
direction, tighten the screws. Fix the flexible waveguide using fixtures.
M5 screw
The flexible waveguide is available in multiple types. This procedure for installing
the flexible waveguide is provided for reference only. In actual installation, follow
the instructions delivered with the flexible waveguide.
Flange spacers are used for optimal waterproof performance when PDR flange Flexible
interfaces are interconnected. For example, flange spacers are required when a waveguide
flexible waveguide is connected to a 6 GHz antenna.
Upon delivery, the antenna ports of branching unit have been covered with protective caps. Loads have been installed on
cascade ports. Do not remove the caps or loads until these ports are going to be used.
Waterproof the connectors between the flexible waveguide and the branching unit or antenna. For details about how to
waterproof the connectors, see "Waterproofing Outdoor Connectors".
Ground bar
Ground cables must be installed for all branching units and RFUs.
Apply anti-rusting grease to the ground bar or ground point after
installing the ground cable.

Installation Check
Checking Installation of the Branching unit, RFU, and antenna Checking Installation of Cables
1 Poles can bear the weight of branching units and antennas. 1 All outdoor connectors and ground clips are waterproofed.
2 The installation position and direction of branching units meets the requirements specified in the engineering 2 IF cable connectors are made according to specifications. They are in good condition.
design document.
3 IF cables are not bent or twisted. The shield layer is not exposed.
3 The installation position and direction of antennas meets the requirements specified in the engineering design
document.
4 Drip loops are made for IF cables that are led out of an RFU.
4 Antennas are correctly installed. Specifically, the side with a wider shroud faces upwards and the side with a
narrower shroud faces downwards. 5 Before IF cables enter windows, they are grounded and have drip loops.
5 Branching units are securely installed on poles. The connections meet wind loading requirements.
6 The minimum bending radius of IF cables is larger than 30 cm (11.8 in).
6 Antenna supports are securely installed on poles. The connections meet wind loading requirements.
7 IF cables are routed separately and tidily.
7 Loads are installed for cascade ports, and RFU ports that are not in use on branching units.
8 When IF cables are bundled on the cable ladder or cable rack, a spacing of 1 m (3.28 ft) is left.
8 All branching units and RFUs are grounded.
9 Excess cables are reserved for future use.
9 Branching units, flexible waveguides, and elliptical waveguides, and antennas are securely connected.
10 IF cable labels are attached and bundled according to related requirements. The labels are arranged neatly,
facing the same direction.
10 The frequency bands of RFUs are consistent with these of the TX high and low sites of branching units.
11 Redundant IF cables are coiled around a pole or tower to form a loop with a diameter of at least 60 cm (23.62
11 The main antenna ports, SD antenna ports, and cascade ports on branching units are connected correctly. in).
12 IF cable ground points meet requirements.
12 Branching units are not damaged or deformed.
13 IF cables are not bent within a range 0.5 m (1.64 ft) above and below the ground clip.
13 The bending radius and twisted angle of flexible waveguides and elliptical waveguides are within the allowed
range.
14 Ground cables are led from the top downwards and the angle between ground cables and IF cables is less
14 Antennas, branching units, and RFUs are in the protection range of the lightning arrester. (The protection angle than 15 degrees.
of the lightning arrester for antennas is less than 45 degrees. In mountainous and thunder prone areas, the
angle is less than 30 degrees). 15 For an elliptical waveguide, the portion 50 cm (1.64 ft ) to the connector is straight.
15 An antenna support bar must be vertical with an antenna radome. 16 Elliptical waveguides are not damaged or deformed.
16 Ensure that the drainage holes on an antenna are on a vertical line. After the antenna is installed, open the
lower drainage hole.
