Problem Set (Measures of Correlation)

1. Call the dataset “morley” in R. The data consists of five

experiments, each consisting of 20 consecutive ‘runs’. The
response is the measurement on speed of light, suitably coded
(km/sec, with 299000 subtracted). Using an appropriate measure
suggest how much do the measurements on the speed of light
depend upon the experiments.

2. Call the dataset “faithful” in R. The data gives the waiting time
between eruptions and the duration of the eruption for the Old
Faithful geyser in Yellowstone National Park, Wyoming, USA.
Divide the dataset into two parts, one with eruption time less than
3 and the other with eruption time more than 3. Compute the
correlation coefficient of the two sets seperately and again for the
whole dataset. Comment on your findings.

Type all solutions in a WORD file and submit the assignment on 25 th

WORD File. Type your Name and Roll Number clearly at the
beginning of the solution.
