Last time, we went to Museo de Intramuros

which is a house of period art collections. The museum
showcased the artistry of many Filipino artists’
developed from merging indigenous and foreign
craftsmanship. Most of the collections are about
religion because it was the time of the Spanish
colonization which basically the center of religion,
education and commerce.

There is one sculpture

that caught my attention which
is the “Ecce Homo (Head and
Hands)”, it is made from ivory. As
stated in the pic at the right side it is the head and hands of Jesus. I really love the details
that the sculptor did because it was so realistic. Because it looked so realistic the emotion
that sculptor expressed was shown, I can definitely feel the emotion. It was also cool
because for the details, the eyes are made from glass that made it look more expressive.

The medium that the sculptor used was unique, for me.
And I think it requires a high level of skills in order to
achieve the outcome of his work. The other collections
were also nice in their own way. But this sculpture, for me,
is the most detailed and most expressive of them all. My
second favorite was the “Calvary Scene (19th Century)”
which is made from wood and placed inside a bottle.
