Information on registration for international

guest students, exchange students and scholarship holders

Dear students,
We are looking forward to welcome you at our university !
The International Office (Akademisches Auslandsamt) is the first institution you will
contact for any details, documents, etc. you will need for your course and stay at our
university.
This information gives an overview of the most important formal procedures at the
beginning of your stay in Halle.
All lectures and seminars offered in the current semester can be found in the
university prospectus of the Martin-Luther-University on the website

The special registration for courses have to make after the central matriculation
directly at the faculties and departments of our university.

At the beginning of your stay in Halle, you will be registered or matriculated at our
university. Please submit the following documents:

 completed registration form

 1 passport photograph

 grant certificate alternatively the declaration about your status as

guest-/exchange student from a Professor of this university

 health insurance document

Up to the age of 30, all students can take out a state health insurance policy
in Germany. It costs about 68,00 € per month.
You can get this health insurance document from the insurance company
Techniker Krankenkasse (TK), Kleine Steinstraße 5, 06108 Halle.
Students from EU-countries are insured at home; they simply submit the
document ( E 109 / E 111 or E 128 ) to the TK and they will be exempted
from the health insurance scheme here in Germany.
You need this document proving your exemption when you matriculate.
So, please, bring along all the necessary documents from home and submit
them to the TK prior to matriculation.
Students with private health insurance documents from home also have to go
to the TK prior to matriculation so as to obtain the exemption document .
Without this document you are not allowed to be matriculated.

 payment of the semester contribution ( 62,60 € )

These fees are compulsory for all students. It is no tuition fee, but payment to
the Student Services (Studentenwerk) and the Student Council
(Studentenrat). Moreover it includes a semester ticket for using the local
traffic facilities in Halle. Payment in cash is not possible, while registration
you get from us a payment blank to use for the bank transfer

Time and Location of Matriculation

The International Office is in charge of your matriculation at the Martin-Luther-
University:

Time anytime in semester during office hours

Office hours Monday /Tuesday /Thursday / Friday 10.00 – 12.00 a.m.

Tuesday 1.00 – 5.00 p.m.
Thursday 1.00 – 3.00 p.m.

Academic calendar
Duration of winter semester 1st Oktober – 31st March
Duration of summer semester 1st April – 30th September

Housing and living in Halle

Unfortunately, Martin-Luther-University do not have a campus with student
residences on site. Students have to find somewhere to live themselves and this can
be an exhausting undertaking.
Housing in student dormitories is managed by the Studentenwerk Halle, a student
services organisation. The international students are usually accomodated in
student dorms. The housing application form (to be downdloaded from
www.studentenwerk-halle.de should be sent as soon as possible to:

If you submit your application to the Studentenwerk early and get your name on the
waiting list, your chances are not at all bad.
Housing costs in student dorms varies from 100 to 200 € per month depending on
equipment and quality of the dorms. To cover the study and living expenses in Halle
a single student needs a minimum amount of 500 €.
