Music Competitions

(Guidelines)

Board of Judges:

The Board of Judges is composed of at least three (3) members. The members could be invited experts,
and/or faculty members from other schools. The members of the board of judges should be selected
with due consideration for their industry and academic achievements. It is believed that their individual
prominence and collective leadership would significantly enhance the spirit of healthy competition,
which the competitions seek to foster. The members of the board of judges are expected to be at the
competition site at least 30 minutes before the competition proper.

1. Solo Singing Idol

MECHANICS:

A. Open to Junior High School Students (Grade 7-10).


B. The contestant will sing a song with a maximum time limit of 5 minutes. Beyond this limit, a
total of five (5) points will be deducted from the total score.
C. Medley arrangement of songs is not allowed.

CRITERIA:

Percentage Points

A. Voice Quality (harmony, timber and depth) --------------------------------- 50%


B. Song Rendition (originality and interpretation) ----------------------------------30%
C. Star Quality (personality and bearing) --------------------------------------------- 10%
D. Over-all Impact -------------------------------------------------------------------------- 10%

2. Chorale Singing

MECHANICS:

A. Open to Junior High School Students (Grade 7-10)


B. Each group will have a minimum of 5 and a maximum of 10 members.
C. The members of the group may be composed of all males or females, or any combination
thereof.
D. Each group shall render two (2) choral pieces: one (1) side piece and one (1) contest piece
which is KUMUKUTIKUTITAP by Ryan Cayabyab. Competing groups are allowed to choose their
own side piece, English or Filipino.
E. All songs must be performed in A CAPELLA
F. Conductors/conductress are allowed to conduct during the contest proper.
G. Maximum performance time is 12 minutes including the entrance and exit. A deduction of
two (2) points will be incurred in excess of every minute or fraction of a minute.

A. Tonal Quality (Flexibility of voice, intonation & range) -------------- --------------------- 40%
B. Harmony (Blending Et. balance, phrasing) --------------------------------------------------- 30%
C. Mastery (Dynamics, technique, interpretation) --------------------------------------------- 20%
D. Deportment (General appearance, discipline Et Uniform) ------------------------------- 10%

Note: The allocation of points shall be based on the following:
Contest Piece --- 60%
Side Piece -------- 40%

3. Duet Singing Competition

MECHANICS:

A. Open to Junior High School Students (Grade 7-10).


B. The contestant will sing a song with a maximum time limit of 5 minutes. Beyond this limit, a
total of five (5) points will be deducted from the total score.
C. Medley arrangement of songs is not allowed.

CRITERIA:

Percentage Points

4. Battle of the Band

MECHANICS:

A. Open to Junior High School Students (Grade 7-10).


B. The Band should have a minimum of three (3) members and maximum of seven (7).
Composed of all males, all females, or combination.
C. The Band will perform pinoy rock music. The contest piece will not contain any obscene, lewd
or green words in the lyrics.
D. The Band will sing a song with a maximum time limit of 5 minutes. Beyond this limit, a total of
five (5) points will be deducted from the total score.
E. Band members are required to bring their own instruments.
F. Medley arrangement of songs is not allowed.

CRITERIA:

Percentage Points

A. Vocal Power --------------------------------- 50%

C. Creativity in Rendition ------------------------- 10%
D. Over-all Impact ---------------- ----------------- 10%

The decision of the "Board of Judges" is final.

WINNERS:
A. Each category will have the 2nd Runner Up, 1st Runner Up and Grand Prize winners.
B. The top 3 placers for each category will receive a glass plaque and a cash prize.
C. The Over-all Champion will receive a glass plaque and a cash prize.

Deadline of submission of entry form is on or before August 1, 2019.
