Reflection 2: The Journey of my Language

Language is a tool which can be used to inform or to give voice to human experiences.In
the three pieces of information selected for my portfolio, the writer's use language effectively to
achieve these purposes.

A literary device refers to the typical structures used by writers in their works to convey
their messages(s) in a simple manner to the leaders. I think language was used effectively
throughout my pieces. My first piece was a song entitled "Teenage Pregnancy" by Gaza Kim
featuring Vybz Kartel where repetition was used in this piece. Repetition was needed where
words are often repeated. It helps to unify the song and serve as an identifying factor for the
listeners.

My second piece was a poem entitled "Teen Pregnancy". In this piece several literary
devices was used,couplets, rhyming schemes that is usually used in a creative expression that
deals with love and admiration. This is fitting for this poem as the poet celebrates her own
strength in dealing with difficult situations. The last stanza which is the strongest part of the
poem is the longest and has the poem goes on the stanza become longer. The poem is speaking in
the first person.

My third and final piece was an article titled "Pregnancy Exposed". In this piece it brings
out various writing skills namely : Expository, because it offer sequencing of information,
persuasive, because it uses words like "Terrifying", "phenomenal", and statistical, because it
speaks about the percentage of teenage who are pregnant now.
