1 Review Digraphs: sh, ch, th, wh, and ck

Wilson explains that digraphs are two consonants that
stick together to form one sound. Review with large
sound cards reciting the letter-keyword-sound
Example: sh – ship – /sh/
4 Practice Digraph Tapping:
Wilson will form words on the board using the
standard sound cards and students will all tap the
words out together and then read the word (chop,
duck, thud, whip, quick, shack)
4 Review Marking of Digraphs:
Wilson will explain that whenever a digraph is in a
word, you can identify it by underlining it
Example: chip would be marked chip with one line
under both c and h
Students will write words that are dictated to them on
their whiteboards and mark the digraph(s)
1 Build Nonsense Words:
Wilson will explain that later in the year the students
will be combining syllables to read and spell longer
words. To do this they will need to be able to read and
spell syllables that are not real words.
Students will tap and read the words lish and ath.
Have a student go to the board and underline the
digraph
2 Closing:
Students will color in the pictures of the digraphs and
short vowels in the sound section of their student
notebooks
