 The Black and White Carnival
comprises four stages:

Precarnaval

It begins on December 28 with the

day of the water, on this day people
of all ages sell to the street to "get
wet." This day is all valid: cars of
people with water reeds, pumps full
of water, hoses and even hydrants
help make it a special day where the
only purpose is to get wet. The
Precarnaval continues on December
30 with the famous Serenata a
Pasto, during which you can hear the
best string trios in the Andean region.

It is a children's activity in which

thousands of children from the region
participate, between 6 and 14 years
old, showing their creativity and the
cultural heritage of the region.

The Castañeda family parade

It is a great parade through the

Carnival, according to which in 1928

Blacks Day

It takes place on January 5. On this

"pinticas" of black cosmetic to the
point that all clothing, faces, arms
and body parts discovered are
painted. In the city, tablados are
organized with orchestras where
there are no differences in races and
social classes.

White's Day

On January 6, the rules of the game

change and instead of the "black or
colored pint" people throw white
talcum powder. The party begins with
the parade of floats with immense
figures made by artisans, becoming
a fascinating and joyful cultural
demonstration.
