2IE-1 Understanding the
Self

Summary of Inside Out

This is a film about an 11 year old girl named Riley who moves with her parents
across their country from Minnesota to San Francisco. Riley is currently
experiencing a transformation in her mind and in who she is as she struggles to
adjust in her new environment in San Francisco and her process of growing up.

ACTIVITY 1:

1. Describe each human character in the story.


- Riley, the main character of the story is a joyful kid which loves to play
hockey and spend time with teammates. Also, she is very close to her parents.
Her mother is a caring mother which is always concerned on how Riley is doing.
Her father is a very busy person but despite that, she always look on her
daughter.

2. How do the characters show their positive and negative feelings?


- Riley her feelings by expressing it through her actions. Her parents on the
other hand shows their action to verbal communication.

3. What feelings are dominant in the characters?


- The dominant feeling about the character is mostly joy but also some part
of the other emotions.
4. Which characters attempt to block the expression of particular feelings?
How do they do so? Do you find yourself blocking feelings consistently?
- Joy is the character who often attempt to block the other particular
feelings because she is very dominant among others. She does this by
intervening through their choice of actions or ideas. Yes. I somehow feel
blocking my feelings which is particularly sadness because I don’t want to
show my weak side to other people.
