PERSONAL STATEMENT

“The mediocre teacher tells. The good teacher explains. The superior teacher demonstrates.
The great teacher inspires.” From a very young age I have been on stage with a hunger to
entertain, but also to teach people dances and show them how to sing a song, to perform a
scene, to give them the inspiration they need to perform. I am interested in this course
because it’s my dream to share my passion for performing with others, to teach them the
technique and enthusiasm you need to successfully perform on stage. For me, performing
has always been about creative freedom and inspiring. I feel as though through teaching I
will be able to help young people discover their passion for performing and show them the
art that is being on stage.
I feel that I am a well organised person, whether that be through always meeting deadlines
on time, or being organised with where I need to be at a certain point of the day. As well as
this, I am also a good problem solver. When I am faced with an issue, I feel as though it is
always best to be proactive and solve the problem as soon as possible so that it can’t risk
being left to the last minute. It’s highly important to have a large array of performance skills.
Versatility is important in order to adapt and be flexible. Teamwork skills are also important
as you will have to work and cooperate as a team in order to reach a final outcome
successfully. The ability to be punctual comes as a standard, it means showing enthusiasm
for your subject, that you are serious about learning and about being at the classes that are
enabling you to grow in the subject.
Fitness has been a huge part of my life as it keeps me focused, motivated and confident. I
have completed My Duke of Edinburgh Bronze and 1633 Moor Challenge, which both
physically and mentally challenged. After having completed these challenges I have inspired
my younger siblings to part take in the challenges. During my years in high school I was
constantly involved in sporting activities, being my secondary school’s 1500m female record
holder for Year Seven, Eight, Nine, and Ten, representing my school in netball games, and
also competing from district up to county standard in Cross Country Championships,
alongside my training for triathlons.
Since I was three, I have been training in styles such as Ballet, Contemporary, Lyrical, Pointe
and Jazz. I have not only completed Ballet examinations up to Grade Seven (I am currently
doing my Grade Eight), but I have also taken part in the dance shows put on by the school
every eighteen months since joining the school, this is where I first discovered my love for
performing. From dancing also began my love for music, I joined my primary schools choir
and discovered my love for singing on stage, and I progressed onto playing the Oboe and
despite my early struggles with the instrument, I persevered with my music and was able to
complete my Grade One, Two and Three Oboe examinations before having to give it up.
As previously mentioned, my goal is to teach and inspire young people to grow and go onto
a stage and show off their talent to people. When I was at high school, I was Head Girl
during year 11 which gave me the opportunity to work closely with the school community
and also work with younger students delivering presentations and giving out awards which
was a great opportunity and privilege to hold such a title. I have always been invested in
helping young people and helping them achieve their goals. I used to volunteer as a young
leader at a Brownie group. Being a young leader involved supporting young girls in crafts,
sports, music, cooking, games, and giving them a safe environment to learn and play with
their friends outside of school hours. Before becoming a young leader, I achieved the Baden
Powell Award which is the highest award you can gain as a girl guide.
“The mediocre teacher tells. The good teacher explains. The superior teacher demonstrates.
The great teacher inspires.” My ambition is to be a great teacher.
