Creating Impact Forces to Free a Stuck Drillstring
When planning a drilling program, one must factor in the possibly of the drillstring becoming stuck. This unpredictable event can be mitigated by
placing a drilling jar in the bottom hole assembly (BHA). A drilling jar is used to create an impact and impulse force to jar free a stuck drillstring. This
is achieved by the conversion of strain energy into kinetic energy which accelerates the “hammer” to collide with the “anvil” to create a tremendous
blow.
