PASSIVE VOICE

Passive voice is used to show interest in a

person/object to action, not someone/object

that takes an action.

A thing/object/person can be a subject.

Passive sentences are often used in formal

texts/dialogues.

If you want to say who or what did an action in a

passive sentences, use the preposition by.

Example:

(+) I’m cooking the dinner. (Active)

(+) The Dinner is being cooked by me. (Passive)

(-) I’m not washing my bicycle. (Active)

(-) My bicycle is not being washed by me.

(Passive)

So:

 S (direct object) + to be (is/am/are) +/- not

+ past participle (-ed,-en,-d) +/- by…

(agent/S in an active voice)

 S (direct object) + modal (can, should, may) +

be + past participle (-ed,-en,-d) +/- by...

(agent/S in an active voice)
