Digital citizenship is defined as “the norms of appropriate, responsible behavior with regard to
technology use”1. It includes the following nine elements. Please see more details at

1. Digital Access: full electronic participation in society.


2. Digital Commerce: electronic buying and selling of goods.
3. Digital Communication: electronic exchange of information.
4. Digital Literacy: process of teaching and learning about technology and the use of technology.
5. Digital Etiquette: electronic standards of conduct or procedure.
6. Digital Law: electronic responsibility for actions and deeds
7. Digital Rights & Responsibilities: those freedoms extended to everyone in a digital world.
8. Digital Health & Wellness: physical and psychological well-being in a digital technology
world.
9. Digital Security (self-protection): electronic precautions to guarantee safety

The Statement of Problem [8 points]

Problem: Elementary students in grades 1-4 have yet to properly learn how to use technology to their
benefit.

Significance: As technology is expanding, it is important for students to understand how to properly use
technology as well as how to use it safely.

Solution: In addition to becoming familiar with the use as the teacher uses technology in day-to-day
lesson plans, set aside class time to go to the computer lab once a week in order for students to learn how
to log in, navigate the internet, and become familiar with the other uses of computers in a safe way.
