This 3 part online module is designed to provide educators with the training necessary to

assess their own cultural biases, engage with students of diverse backgrounds, and how to
be an advocate for diversity and inclusion.

Module 1:
Objective: Understand how my views will influence my future interactions with others.

Tasks for Module 1:


Part 1:

Students will participate in a google survey that will be used to measure the depth of their own cultural competence and make the
participant aware of any biases that they may have. One of the key components in becoming culturally competent and accepting
those who are different is self-identity.

Part 2:

Students will view a video that describes cultural competency and what it means to be self-aware. While watching this video,
students will write down any thoughts, comments, or ideas they feel are relevant to the content and how it relates to their own
knowledge of cultural competency.

Part 3:

Students will use an online database that provides demographics relating their district and compare and contrast their district to
another district with a different demographic make-up.

Part 4:

After taking the survey, watching the video, and analyzing data, students will participate in the following discussion question
which is located in Google Groups: https://groups.google.com/a/georgiasouthern.edu/forum/#!forum/ccfe2019-group

Consider the demographics of your district. What is my role as an administrator/team leads towards cultural competence?

Students will use data from online database and video to answer question and respond to two classmates’ posts.

Students will create a twitter account to generate questions using twitter that relate to cultural competency. Questions can be
drawn from video and online database or students can pose questions that requires their classmates to describe their attitudes
towards cultural competence or address their own biases. Students will then respond to twitter post from other contributors.

Use the hashtag #CC2019 and when you post your tweets tag me @tcreightney90

You will be viewing 7 videos presented by NY times. As you watch each video, begin to tweet thoughts, commentary, and
pose questions for your classmates to respond to. Remember to use the hashtag #CC2019 so that classmates can easily find
your post.
Module 2:
Objective: Demonstrate the ability to assess the impact of assumptions, judgments, and/or biases related
to one’s own and other cultures.
Tasks for Module 2:

Part 1:

Student will begin by watching 7 short videos presented by New York Times. As students watch each video, begin to tweet thoughts,
commentary, and pose questions for other participants to respond to. Remember to use the hashtag #CC2019 so that classmates
can easily find your post. Tag me @tcreightney90

Part 2: Reading and Assessment

Read: The Elements of Culture and Cultural Diversity

After reading, you will find module 2 quizzes on the Assessments and Rubrics Tab

Part 3:

Students will be given different scenarios to choose from. After reading a scenario, students will then record themselves (role-play)
as if they were someone with a different background other than their own to respond to each scenario, Students will post to
discussion board. Students must respond to two post. Scenarios will be posted in discussion forum under module 2.

Module 3:
Objective: Participants will demonstrate the ability to develop support practices that continually promote
cultural diversity.

Tasks for Module 3:


Part 1:

Readings for Module 3: The Importance of Cultural Awareness in Teaching, How Leaders Can Improve Their Schools’ Cultural Competence, NEA - Why Cultural
Competence? , and watch Cultural Competence: What Does It Mean for Educators? (All linked in curated resources)

*These resources will help you with your assignments for module 3
Part 2:

Students create a newsletter, power point presentation, create a website, or create a video highlighting important concepts of cultural competency.

You will find the rubric for this assignment under the assessments and rubric tab

Part 3:

Students create an oath detailing how they will promote cultural competency as a team leader.

Options for Oath: Written Oath or Recording using audio or video. Send document or link to tc06708@georgiasouthern.edu

Part 3:

Students write a reflection summary on how they think this professional learning helped addressed their personal biases and why they believe that cultural
competency is important. Students must respond to two classmates.

Options for reflection: Written in essay form (3-5 Paragraphs) Video Submission (3-5 Minutes), or Audio Submission (3-5 Minutes) - Post link in discussion
