Reservation Program for Monbukagakusho* Honors Scholarship for Privately


Financed International Students by Pre-arrival Admission, Academic Year 2018 Fall
(* Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology)

 Japan Student Services Organization (hereafter “JASSO”) offers the “Monbukagakusho Honors
Scholarship for Privately Financed International Students” to those who attend university in
Japan. In conjunction with this scholarship, JASSO sponsors a reservation program that sets
aside the scholarship allotments for prospective international students coming to a university in
Japan from overseas and who enroll in an English Degree Program as a full time undergraduate
student or an English Masters’ Program as a graduate student.
 Applicants recommended by their university in Japan are considered for the reservation program,
but recipients of the reservation are selected by JASSO.
 The scholarship is awarded for one academic year from October 2018 to March 2019, and the
recipients will be granted JPY 48,000 per month.
TIU is pleased to recommend eligible candidates for the above program. If you wish to be considered,
please submit an application form to the International Exchange Office by Wednesday, July 11, 2018.

Eligible applicants
Students who meet all the requirements below are eligible for the program.
 “Student” visa status (Applying for a COE means applying for a student visa.)
 Academic Year 2017 GPA is 2.3 or above (calculated by JASSO’s grading scale)
NOTE: TIU will calculate your GPA on your behalf. This is based on the Academic Record that you submitted for
TIU Admission Screening. If you do not have 2017 academic record, we will use your admission score.

Credit course system


(Total Grade 3 Credits×3) + (Total Grade 2 Credits×2) + (Total Grade 1 Credits ×1) + (Total Grade 0 Credits ×0)

Non-credit course system
(Total Grade 3 Courses×3) + (Total Grade 2 Courses×2) + (Total Grade 1 Courses ×1) + (Total Grade 0 Courses ×0)

Total number of all registered courses

 Students whose average monthly allowance from his/her private funding source does not exceed
JPY 90,000 (excluding allowance for tuition payment)
 Annual income of your financial supporter residing in Japan is less than JPY 5,000,000.
 Those who are not receiving a scholarship from an organization that disallows students to receive
the JASSO scholarship at the same time.
 Students who are not receiving support from any other of JASSO Study Abroad Support Programs.
 Students who are not receiving any scholarships/grants from the Japanese government or foreign
governments.

Submitting the Application


The application requires a material stated below:

DEADLINE: The application form must be submitted by Wednesday, July 11, 2018 (Japan Standard
Time)

*NOTE: Due to the large number of applicants, we will confirm your online application form on the

-The announcement of results of TIU screening: Early August
-The announcement of results of JASSO screening: Early September
