ONLINE GREEN LIGHT REVIEW

CONCEPT
The name of the skit is “Atypical Academy”, which we’ve come up with from the name of
the school, “The Atypical Academy” where our project will take place. Our theme is
“Failed or Forgotten Superhero’s” so we decided to set it in a junior school, where they
are holding there yearly talent show, with this years theme being “Show Us You’re
Superpower” and the kids are encouraged to present what they think counts as a
“superpower”. The skit will be set in a world, like ours where superpowers are
considered fictional and not realistic, so the talent show name is used as a way to theme
the talent show and add excitement around it, and not to show off real superpowers…
because they’re not real.

The layout of the skit will be s series of short, episodic segments of the children showing
off their “superpowers” both good and bad. The skit itself is meant to be a collection of
the kids auditions which will be shown to other staff members to help them decided who
should be able to perform in the talent show, however the editing of the skit is a bit rough
as it has been done by one of the poor teachers of the school who doesn’t know too
much about editing.

ENVIROMENT
The set of the skit will take place in the school gym, where it will be
showing the first round of auditions for the talent show. The camera,
lighting and music will be in the films world, so the children can see it
and if anything happens in the gym hall the camera and therefore the
recording will be affected by it. The lighting will be made by two
standard, large lights on either side, behind the camera while the
music will be diegetic, and play through an off screen speaker that will
be used for some of the children performances if they request it.

SET/ PROPS/ CHARACTERS
The props in the skit will be according to each character, so some of the children will have
objects linked to their “power” while the gym will have some props in it, such as a basketball
hoop in the background to help give scale to the room, a sign hanging from the ceiling saying
“Talent Show” as well as a microphone on a stand for the children to speak into and use if
they need, as well as a mat underneath it so the children know where to stand. The main prop
will be an A4 sheet of paper that will be put in front of the camera to introduce the children,
their age and their superpowers.

The children all have various nicknames that they have decided to use to introduce
themselves, we also thought this would be a good way to make the children names
memorable to the audience and also play into the stereotypes we assigned the children to
make them more visually distinguishable, some of the names will also act like another joke in
the skit as well. The names used for this OGR are not the children final names, as we want to
change some to make them more funny or suit the character better.

SKITS
The episodes will be each Childs individual act, the
performances will be divided up via a notepad that will
appear in front of the camera (that will be held up by a
teacher behind the camera whom is monitoring the
auditions) that will have the child’s name, age and
“power” listed on it, to help divide up the acts. Some of
the acts will cut back and forward between each other
as they take time to get underway.
INDIVIDUAL SKITS
Dexter:
He thinks he’s good at making bombs so he will try and create an explosion which will end up destroying the entire gym
hall and will probably be the last audition on the tape.

Veruca Salt:
She thinks she’s good at singing, so she will sing into the microphone, but it will actually sound more like screaming and
end up being cut off by one of the staff

Emo Juliette:
She can turn “invisible” but only when the lights are switched off, so a teacher (off camera) will switch the lights off and
bathe the camera in darkness until they eventually give up, switch the lights on only to discover she isn’t there anymore.
She will eventually pop back onto screen, confused at the end of the skit, when after Dexter’s fatal explosion it is revealed
to the audience that she can in fact turn invisible and she does have powers.

Troy:
He will try to shoot a ball into the tall hoop that can just be seen on the camera, this will last for a long time. The joke is
meant to be that he cannot get the ball in the hoop.

Big Billy:
He will play the piano and the joke is meant to be that Billy is very tall while the piano is very small.
INDIVIDUAL SKITS
Bean Sprout:
He will try and lift the box above his head. The gag is meant to be his determination to do something that the
audience can see will eventually hurt him / lead to a disaster.

Cedrick S***tery:
He will squeeze his eyes and tense his body in an attempt to make himself grow bigger which will end in him
farting. The joke is meant to be that the follow through is unexpected compared to the proposed idea.

Big Mouth:
He will end up going into a ramble about what his mum thinks about him. The joke is that he will keep talking for
a while and the stuff he will be saying won’t make a lot of sense.

John Travolta:
He will starting dancing a big broadway number. The joke will be that the setup will look simple and small, but
then the lights will change colour and the performance will be more professional and better then what they
expected.

Magneto:
He will take off his top and sticks spoons to his chest. The joke will be that “magneto” believes that this is a real
power and will take the act very seriously while spoons fall off his chest.
