Universal  Design  for  Learning  (UDL):    For  students  who  are  visually  or  auditory  impaired,  the  videos  will  be  
able  to  help  them  be  able  to  understand  the  lessons  just  as  well  as  their  fellow  classmates.  For  English  
Language  Learners,  the  video  can  be  played  as  many  times  as  needed,  and  the  student  can  access  the  videos  
at  home  if  needed.  The  repetition  will  help  the  student  be  able  to  grasp  the  information.  While  introducing  
the  video  for  the  lesson,  it  allows  everyone  to  start  on  the  same  entry  level.  They  will  all  be  given  the  same  
information,  so  it  will  help  start  the  off  on  the  right  path.

Lesson  idea  implementation:  
The  teacher  will  begin  by  asking  the  students  if  they  have  ever  heard  of  Lewis  and  Clark.  The  teacher  will  then  
construct  a  brain  map  on  what  the  students  know  already  about  Lewis  and  Clark.  The  BrainPop  video  will  then  
be  used  to  introduce  the  lesson  on  Lewis  and  Clarks’  Expedition.  
 
The  students  will  then  be  split  into  groups  of  around  3  or  4.  They  will  construct  a  map  of  Lewis  and  Clark’s  
Expedition  and  what  they  found  along  their  adventure.  Students  will  be  able  to  decide  how  they  want  to  
make  their  map  and  how  they  want  it  to  look.  The  students  will  be  given  a  guide  based  on  the  important  
stops  that  Lewis  and  Clark  made,  but  the  students  will  be  allowed  to  add  any  other  stops  that  they  would  like.  
The  students  will  be  given  a  wide  array  of  materials  to  choose  from  in  order  to  make  their  map.  
 
The  maps  will  be  hung  for  display  outside  of  the  classroom  for  the  rest  of  the  school  to  see.  
 
 
Reflective  Practice  
To  extend  this  project,  I  could  have  the  students  be  able  to  choose  the  type  of  media  they  would  like  their  
map  to  be  on,  for  example  online.  I  could  also  bring  together  everyone’s  ideas  and  have  the  class  collaborate  
on  one  bug  map  that  as  the  lesson  in  the  unit  continues,  more  landmarks  and  people  will  be  added  to  the  
map.
