What are they?


Bacteria consist of just 1 single cell.
There are many different types.
They are tiny – you could fit 50 across the width of a single hair!

Where are they found?


Bacteria are everywhere – food, soil, the air.
There are 100 billion inside your body – weighing almost 1 kg.

What do they look


like?
Bacteria can be
different shapes–
some rods, some
balls, some spirals!

Examples

Bad - MRSA (or Methicillin Resistant Staphylococcus aureus!) – causes


nasty abscesses – a hospital ‘superbug’

Good - Lactobacillus – makes cheese and yoghurt.
