MICROORGANISMS
MICROORGANIMS
- Tiny living organisms, referred as
single celled that are invisible to the
naked eye. Microorganisms can be
found every where, they are on and in
our bodies, and in the food and water
we drink and in air we breathe.
MICROORGANISMS
The use of microscope allows experts
to view and study characteristics of
microorganisms.

Bacteria Virus Fungi Protists

Archaeans
BACTERIA
-are the simplest of all organisms because
its structure possess simple structure and
cell organelles. It is surrounded by two
protective coverings and outer cell wall and
inner membrane.
BACTERIA
-some can produce its own food or
autotrophic while others are heterotrophic
or depends on other living organisms for
food. There are bacteria which are being
considered as beneficial as well as harmful.
Bacilli Cocci Spirilli
(Rod-shaped) (Spherical) (Spiral-shaped)
BACILLI
-rod shaped bacteria look
like the E. coli living in your
intestine. You can imagine a
bunch of bacteria that look
like hot dogs. They can
make chains like a set of
linked sausages.
Cocci
-spherical bacteria are in
the shape of little spheres
or balls. They usually form
chains of cell like a row of
circles.
Spirilli
-spiral shaped bacteria
twisted a little. Think about
balloon animals for these
shapes. It’s like a balloon
animal in the shape of
spring.
Human beings carry
millions of tiny living
organisms in our body
called microbiota. These
bacteria can be found in
skin, nose, mouth, and
digestive system
particularly in the gut or
intestine.
Example
E. coli (found in large
intestine) – It speed up
digestion and when surpass
stomach and small
intestine, it produces
vitamin B12.
Example
Rhizobium (roots of
legumes such as peanut) –
Bacteria that take in
nitrogen from environment
and release it for plant.
Example
Lactobacillus (small
intestine) – Adequate
amount of Lactobacillus
produces vitamin K which
decreases the chance of
infection.
Microbiota
The human microbiota
help us to keep us healthy,
but sometimes these
bacteria can also be
harmful. These harmful
bacteria are called
pathogens.
Microbiota
There are factors that
increases the risk of
infection of pathogenic
bacteria such as age,
smoking, obesity, animal
fat diet, and exposure to
cold temperature.
