Lesson Plan: Brass Tech 9/9/19

Objectives:
 The students will be able to buzz Twinkle Twinkle Little Star on their
mouthpieces.

Procedures:
 Unpack instruments at the edges of the room with their backpacks.
 Students move and sit in chairs in an arch around podium with mouthpieces only.
 Teacher leads Warm up with breathing exercises: in 4, out 4. In 3, out 3. in 2, out
2. in 1, out 1.
 Teaching the Melody
o Teacher sings the melody in Twinkle Twinkle Little Star twice for students
to hear
o Teacher sings the first phrase, breathe, and then have the students repeat
first phrase
 Repeat step until rhythm and pitches are accurate
o Teacher sings the second phrase and has the students repeat second
phrase back.
 Repeat step until rhythm and pitches are accurate
o Teacher sings the first two phrases together and have the class sing back.
 Repeat step until rhythm and pitches are accurate
o Teacher sings the third phrase and has the students repeat third phrase
back.
 Repeat step until rhythm and pitches are accurate
o Teacher sings all phrases together, has class sing all phrases together
 Repeat step until rhythm and pitches are accurate
 Teaching the bass line
o Teacher sings bass line twice through as students listen.
o Teacher sings the first bass line phrase and then has the students repeat

o Teacher sings the first two phrases together and have the class repeat

Assessment:
 Split the classroom into small groups to assess
 Split the smaller groups into thirds so that some buzz the bass line, some buzz
the harmony, and some buzz melody.
 This allows the teacher to see who is struggling while not singling students out.

including whole notes, half notes, quarter eighth notes, dotted half notes, dotted
quarter notes, and corresponding rests.
