Question 1: What baffled Mr. Pulkit Mathur, the Chairman of Gokuldham Society?
Mr. Pulkit was baffled to realise that the expense on shuttle bus services constituted a
major portion of the total transportation cost. Moreover, on several occasions the shuttle
bus services did not run on full capacity resulting in high operational cost. He wanted to find
a way to cut operational cost.
Question 2: What alternatives will you propose to resolve the problem faced by Mr.
Mathur?

 We will revise the shuttle timings.

 Use of force travellers and cars as shuttle to reduce cost.
 Residents can use their personal vehicles at times in case of transportation
accommodation issue till we reach a permanent solution.
Question 3: What solution, Professor Sachan should propose to solve this problem?
Describe step by step
Using average method, we shall calculate average number of passengers for all the seven
days and select the mode of transport as per the capacity of passengers. Also, if the number
of passengers exceed the average count we can utilize for cars and force travellers to
accommodate the rest. By applying this method we can reduce the usage of shuttle
consequently we can reduce the operating costs.
Question 4: What will happen to the solution methodology if
1) the number of residents in society increases every year and
2) when the data set increase to five years?

1) As the number of residents increases, we can recalculate the average of passengers

per day so that we can optimize the utilization of available resources. In case the
passengers exceed the capacity of available transportation resources, we might have
to increase our transportation resources.

2) Positively, the infrastructure will become better after five years. So, residents can
use their cars and also offer car pooling services to other residents.
Also, if we are provided with the data of next five years we can forecast the
transportation facilities of the same in an efficient manner.
