Gokuldham society: A

case on transportation
planning
Group- 8
Concerns
● The total transportation cost was Rs. 10 Million
● The expenses on shuttle bus services constituted a major portion of
the total transportation cost
● Most of the shuttle buses didn’t run on full capacity, leading to high
operational costs
● Force travellers and cars available in the society were not being
utilized
Short Term Solutions
● To cease operation of shuttle buses during hours of low
frequency(below 18 passengers)on a particular day and employ
cars and force travellers instead
● Usage of cars only, when the number of passengers is less than 6
● In the case of the number of passengers are between 6 - 12, then
the Transport department should opt for engaging a couple of cars if
available
● When the number of passengers is between 12 to 18, a
combination of a car and a force traveller should be considered if
available
Comparative Transportation Cost Study
Revised Total Cost

The total monthly travelling costs are reduced by Rs. 22,950, i.e, by 17%.
Long Term Solutions
● If road condition improves in the future then residents can use
their personal vehicles (like 2 wheelers and cars)
● If road condition does not improve
○ Timing and frequency of travelling for the new residents will be noted
○ The number of residents travelling at a particular time slot will be
accounted
○ It will be observed if the number of residents traveling are more than
the capacity of any particular vehicle
○ Then, if required the number of vehicles for that given time slot will be
increased
