PERSONAL COMPUTING AND BEYOND


Convergence - The integration of technology on multi-function devices, such as a smartphone
incorporates a digital camera, a digital music player, video player, phone, web browser, email, calendar,
GPS, and more.

IoT - The integration of products with embedded computers for connection to the internet for remote
monitoring and control via a web browser or mobile app

Wearables - Computers worn on the body, as an example for health monitoring

Client - An application that acts as a client, such as a web browser, as it connects to or requests services
from a server, such as an email server

Supercomputers - Very expensive, complex computer systems used in university and medical research
applications and for weather forecasting

GPS - A tracking system created by the U.S. Department of Defense that uses satellites, called a Global
Positioning System

GeoCaching - An electronic scavenger hunt that is played around the world using a GPS system

Artificial - The type of intelligence studied in a branch of science related to making computers behave or
think intelligently like humans

Ubiquitous - The type of computing also referred to as invisible computing, where the technology isn't
recognized as being a computer.

Embedded - Computers which are integrated into such diverse products as gasoline pumps, home
appliances, and traffic lights, thus increasing the functionality of the products
