Pacquiao TKOs Matthysse to Steal WBA title

Manny Pacquiao unleashed a heavy uppercut during the crucial point of the 7th round,
ending it with a technical knockout to beat Lucas Matthysse during their World Boxing
Association (WBA) regular welterweight fight, last July 15, 2018 held at Axiata Arena in Kuala
Lumpur, Malaysia.

Pacquiao managed to throw 344 punches in less than seven full rounds. He landed 95, of
which 79 were power punches. Matthysse, threw 246 punches, 95 landed, in which 36 were power
punches.

“We had a great fight and Matthysse is a great fighter. My victory is not only to clear
rumors about my retirement, but also to restore the pride of all Filipinos”, Pacquiao said.

Matthysse released his final rounds of bullets as the fight comes near to conclusion, during
the 7th round. He released furious combinations of straight head jabs and hooks, gaining the
advantage in the early seconds of the round.

The senator preserved his defense up to the last minute of the 7th round. He fired a jab on
the head, opening the defense of his opponent, following it with his left uppercut to knock
Matthysse down for the third time.

In the 3rd round, Matthysse started the fight with dynamic punches, assaulting the 39-year
old, filipino pride. Pacquiao threw his counter punches through his sharp left jabs, breaking the
defense of his opponent. Matthysse tried to restore his stance, but was surprised by the famous left
counter uppercut by Pacquiao, ending the round with a knockout on Matthysse.

Pacquiao heated-up the ring as the 5th round begins. Quick head jabs, followed by
consecutive body shots were received by his opponent. Matthysse secures his stance up to the last
30 seconds of the round, but was hit by another left uppercut from the senator, followed by a hook
and a jab on the head, resulting to a second knockout on Matthysse.

“I admit that Manny is a skilled and experienced fighter. Although, I lost the fight, it was
a great experience to fight with this Filipino Boxer”, Matthysse said.

Another historical event was recorded through the victory of Pacquiao in his fight with
Matthysse. He gained the WBO Regular Welterweight Belt and seize to continue his boxing career.
World Boxing Coordinators are still setting the next fight for Pacquiao, but there are rumors that
it will be another rematch against Mayweather.
