Family resilience has been defined as the ability to bounce back and withstand

hardships during difficulty experiences. Barriers including, communications, scarce

resources among other factors contribute hardships in which an individual experiences

resilience. Thus, resilience, whether through relationships or individual experience is

developed though adversities that are beyond our own controls.

Being in a strong family involves a set of traits, it comes with various values and

structures, and how every member in the family supports each other. My family has

gone through hard times such as; closing of the businesses, which has forced us to sell

assets (our house), while both parents must raise their kids at the same time. Therefore,

resilience is more about relational support from each member of the family. We always

have had hope and patients during our dark times, which we have never give up and its

important to fail in life it teaches you to withstand. Does communication develop family

resilience?

Over the years, I have struggled with mental health due to what society and

culture have imposed upon me. The culture, who have criticized me or judged my

personality. I have been always worried of the criticism I face sometimes. The people

who used to be around me, always implied negative thoughts in my mind, that they

have no hope in me and my siblings are doing way better than me. In the article ‘Bright

Quest’ states ‘Family members are essential components in the process of healing
mental illness’ (Ellis 2019) which I believe it true, However the only problem I have with

this statement is, that its always hard to talk to family members on what is going on in

your mind, how do you overcame or deal with mental illness?. Isn’t that situation same

as the movie farewell, I decide to keep my dark times within my self, rather than

informing my family members or stressing them about it?
