Trolls in many hundred
years
The stories about trolls are many
and old. Already in the old book
“Edda” from around the year 1220
we meet a giant troll with many
heads. Today we know the trolls
best from the fairytales, legends
and folk songs, and especially from
the folk tales collected by the two
Norwegians Asbjørnsen and Moe
in 1844 where trolls are the main
characters in the stories.
The trolls are often described as
gigantic, strong, evil and dangerous.
They were ugly with long, big noses
and eyes as huge as pewter dishes.
They could have many heads or
just one eye. They were living as
the enemy of divinities and humans,
and reacted according to the folk
tales when they feel “the smell of
Christian man’s blood”. They could
be living in the mountains or in a
distant cold country, but there were
also trolls in the sea and in the
forest.
Recent popular culture
Nowadays, trolls are popular
as souvenirs and collectables,
especially the trolls from Ny Form.
Trolls also occur in modern culture,
especially in the English-speaking.
We find something similar with trolls
in monsters, often without common
sense and any language, both in
cartons, fantasy literature and in
computer games like “World of
warcraft”.
But also in literature for children
there are many examples on
histories with trolls, for example
the Finish author Tove Janson’s
stories about the little kind troll
named Mummi and his family or
the Norwegian stories written by
Tor Åge Bringsværd about the troll
that is just named “The little troll”.
These troll stories are all about very
kind trolls in which the children can
recognize parts of themselves and
which are not scary at all.
So - if you have not read about trolls
yet, I think you should!

I Trolls nei secoli
Le storie sui troll sono tante e
antiche. Già nel libro “Edda”, datato
intorno all’anno 1220, troviamo
un troll gigante, con molte teste.
Oggi conosciamo i troll soprattutto
dalle fiabe, dalle leggende, dalle
canzoni tradizionali e in particolare
dai racconti popolari raccolti dai
Norvegesi Asbjørnsen e Moe nel
1844, in cui i troll sono i protagonisti
della storia.
I troll sono spesso descritti come
giganteschi, forti, cattivi e un po’
pericolosi. Erano brutti, con lunghi
e grandi nasi e occhi grandi come
piatti di peltro. Potevano avere
molte teste e un solo occhio. Erano
poco amici degli uomini e degli dei,
vivevano sulle montagne o nelle
lande desolate, ma c’erano troll
anche vicino al mare e nel fitto delle
foreste.
I troll nella recente
cultura popolare
Oggi I troll sono diventati popolari
come souvenir e come oggetti
da collezione, specialmente I troll
della Ny Form. L’immagine del troll
ricorre anche nella cultura moderna,
specialmente nelle nazioni di cultura
anglosassone. Troviamo qualcosa
di simile ai troll nei mostri, spesso
un po’ assurdi, che popolano i
cartoni animati, la letteratura fantasy
e i “computer games”, come ad
esempio “World of warcraft”.
Anche nella letteratura per
bambini i troll sono protagonisti di
molte storie; per esempio quelle
dell’autore Finlandese Tove
Janson’s, che parlano del piccolo
gentile troll chiamato Mummi e della
sua famiglia, oppure quelle della
Norvegese Tor Åge Bringsværd sul
troll che si chiama semplicemente
“Il piccolo troll”. Tutte queste storie
parlano di piccoli troll gentili che non
incutono paura per nulla, e in cui i
bimbi possono identificarsi.
Insomma, se non avete ancora letto
nulla sui troll, è ora di cominciare!

Troll über die
Jahrhunderte
Geschichten über Trolle sind
zahlreich und alt. Schon in dem
alten Buch „Edda“ aus dem
Jahre 1220 treffen wir auf einen
mehrköpfigen Riesentroll. Heute
kennen wir die Trolle am besten
aus Märchen, Legenden und
Volksliedern. Ganz besonders in
den Volkssagen, die von den zwei
Norwegern Asbjørn und Moe im
Jahre 1844 gesammelt wurden,
spielen Trolle die Hauptrolle.
Trolle wurden oft als riesig, stark,
böse und gefährlich beschrieben.
Sie waren hässlich mit langen,
riesigen Nasen und Augen, die
aussahen wie Zinnteller. Sie konnten
mehrere Köpfe oder nur ein Auge
haben. Trolle lebten als Feinde der
Götter und Menschen und nach
den Märchen zufolge reagierten sie
auf „den Blutgeruch der Christen“.
Sie leben in den Bergen oder in
weitentfernten kalten Ländern. Es
gab sie aber auch im Meer oder in
den Wäldern.
In der heutigen Zeit
Heutzutage sind Trolle beliebte
Souvenire und Sammlerstücke,
besonders die Ny Form Trolle. Trolle
gibt es auch in der moderen Kultur,
speziell im englischsprachigen
Raum. Auch ohne die Sprache
zu verstehen, erkennt man die
Ähnlichkeit von Trollen und
Monstern in Cartoons, Fantasy
Literatur und Computerspielen wie
„Times of Warcraft“.
Aber auch in der Kinderliteratur
gibt es Beispiel für Geschichten
mit Trollen. Wie zum Beispiel in
den Geschichten über den kleinen
Troll Mummi und seiner Familie
des finnischen Schriftstellers Tove
Janson. Oder auch die Erzählungen
über den „kleinen Troll“ von Tor Åge
Bringsværd. Diese Stories handeln
alle um liebenswürdige Trolle,
in denen sich die Kindern selbst
wiedererkennen können. Sie sind
nicht schaurig.
Und wenn du bis jetzt noch nie
etwas über Trolle gelesen hast,
dann wird es Zeit!

Limited edition
Troll no. 306 is a very special troll that is thoroughly made by experts hand.
This is a very demanding job that takes a lot of precision and 700 examples and in total 2000. This will probably be a very
time. This troll is more difficult and exacting to make than valuable and demanded troll which will be labeled with a
any other of the trolls. Therefore, there will only be made a golden pine cone as a symbol for trolls produced in limited
few examples of this special troll. In 2008 we plan to produce edition.

fare di tutti gli altri troll, quindi abbiamo previsto di farne solo
un numero limitato. Abbiamo programmato di produrre 700
pezzi nel 2008 e in tutto ne faremo 2.000. Sarà probabilmente
un modello molto richiesto e che assumerà un particolare
valore; sarà riconoscibile per un’etichetta speciale con la pigna
dorata, che identifica i troll prodotti in edizione limitata.

Troll Nr. 306 ist ein sehr spezieller Troll, welcher
sorgfältig von Expertenhand gefertigt wurde.
Dies ist ein anspruchsvoller Jobb, der Zeit und
Präzision benötigt. Dieser Troll ist schwieriger
und anspruchsvoller herzustellen, als je ein Troll
zuvor. Deshalb wird es von diesem Spezialtroll
nur wenige Exemplare geben. In 2008 planen
wir 700 Stück herauszubringen. Insgesamt
werden 2000 produziert. Dieser Ausgabe wird
höchstwahrscheinlich ein sehr kostbarer und
gefragter Troll werden. Deshalb wird er mit
einem Spezialanhänger, einem „Kiefernzapfen“
als Zeichen für Trolle mit limitierter Auflage,
gekennzeichnet sein.

The home of the Trolls:

Trollheimen
The very beautiful mountain region
“Trollheimen” (the home of the trolls) in the
middle of Norway has in many years had
two large caves inside a glacier. They were
very beautiful. So beautiful that an artist was
inspired to have an art exhibition inside the
“speilsalen” which we can translate to “the hall
of reflections”. The name of the other cave is
“the blue hall” because of the blue light inside
the glacier.
Unfortunately, this autumn the caves collapsed. A steep
blue wall of ice is everything that is left of the mighty natural
phenomenon that had been known as popular attraction in
the home of the trolls for several decades. The first cave was
discovered in 1919. A fantastic glacier cave that towered white
and shiny over the stream that is floating under the glacier.
In 1935 also the second cave was discovered and named
“Blåsalen”, the blue hall, located just beside the mountain
Blåhø in the heart of “Trollheimen”.

This is a result of climate changes, say the

experts.
Many thousands of both Norwegians and tourists have walked
up to these caves to see them and walk thru them, despite
the exhausting hike up. But the beautiful sight was absolutely
worth the effort. You could walk thru the caves along the stream
that is floating thru. The colapsing is a big loss for everyone
that likes to be overwhelmed by the beauty of this natural
phenomenon!
The milder weather of the last winters led to a constant
deglaciation and eventually the caves colapsed when the first
snowfall came last autumn.

La casa dei Troll: Die Heimat der Trolle:

Trollheimen
Nella bellissima regione montagnosa del “Trollheimen” (la
casa dei troll), al centro della Norvegia, esistevano da molti
anni due grandi grotte, all’interno di un ghiacciaio.
Erano così belle, ma così belle, che un artista ha avuto
l’ispirazione di organizzare un’esposizione d’arte dentro la
“speilsalen”, che potremmo chiamare in Italiano “la sala di
riflessi”.
Il nome dell’altra grotta era “la sala blu”, a causa della luce
azzurra che si rifletteva all’interno del ghiacciaio.
Purtroppo, nell’autunno scorso le grotte sono crollate.
Un ripido muro di ghiaccio azzurro è tutto ciò che rimane di
questo grande fenomeno naturale, che per molte decadi è
stato conosciuto come una delle più famose attrazioni della
casa dei troll. La prima grotta fu scoperta nel 1919. Una
fantastica grotta di ghiaccio che torreggiava bianca e lucente
sopra il torrente che scorreva all’interno del ghiacciaio.
Nel 1935 fu scoperta anche la seconda grotta, che fu
chiamata “Blåsalen”, “La sala blu”. Ai piedi del monte Blåhø,
nel cuore del “Trollheimen”.
Questo è un effetto dei cambiamenti climatici,
dicono gli esperti.
Molte migliaia di Norvegesi e di turisti si sono arrampicati
fin quassù per vedere le grotte e visitare il loro interno,
nonostante non fosse facile raggiungerle. Lo spettacolo
meraviglioso li ripagava abbondantemente delle fatiche fatte.
Si poteva camminare dentro le caverne, lungo le sponde del
torrente che le attraversava.
Il crollo è una grande perdita per tutti coloro che apprezzano
le emozioni che la bellezza di un fenomeno naturale come
questo ci può offrire. Il clima più mite degli ultimi inverni ha
provocato un costante ritiro del ghiacciaio, e con le prime
nevi di questo autunno le due grotte, già indebolite, sono
definitivamente crollate.

“Blåsalen” (La sala blu) fu scoperta nel 1935 dal famoso
esploratore Norvegese Thor Heyerdahl e da suo nipote. La

Trollheimen
Die wundervolle Bergregion „Trollheimen“ (Die Heimat der
Trolle) in Mitten Norwegens gelegen, war für seine zwei im
Gletscher eingeschlossenen, Jahrhunderte alten Höhlen
bekannt. Sie waren so atemberaubend, dass sogar ein
Künstler inspiriert wurde, seine Werke im so genannten
„Spiegelsaal“ auszustellen. Die zweite Höhle ist, wegen des
blau schimmernden Lichtes im Gletscher, unter dem Namen
„blauer Saal“ bekannt.
Leider kollabierten beide Höhlen im letzten Herbst. Eine
steile blaue Wand ist alles, was von diesem gigantischen,
seit Jahrhunderten als Heimat der Trolle bekannten
Naturphänomen übrig geblieben ist.
Die erste Höhle wurde im Jahre 1919 entdeckt – eine
fantastische Gletscherhöhle, die sich weiss und strahlend
über den Strom, der sich unter dem Gletscher seinen Weg
bahnte, empor hob. 1935 wurde die zweite Höhle entdeckt.
Sie bekam den Namen „Blåsalen“, blauer Saal, und befindet
sich direkt neben dem Berg Blåhø im Herzen Trollheimens.
Das resultiert aus dem Klimawandel, meinen die Experten.
Trotz des anstrengenden Weges liefen jährlich tausende
Touristen und Norweger zu den Höhlen hinauf und
durch sie hindurch. Der wunderbare Ausblick war
jede Anstrengung Wert. Man konnte entlang des
durch den Gletscher fließenden Stromes laufen. Das
Zusammenstürzen der Höhlen bedeutet einen großen
Verlust für jeden, der gerne von der Schönheit eines
solchen Naturphänomens überwältigen lässt.
Das in den letzten Wintern vorherrschende milde Wetter,
führte zum Rückzug des Gletschers, und mündetet in dem
Zusammensturz der Höhlen als letzen Herbst der erste
Schnee fiel.

Carnival parade in Trecate
Sfilata di Carnevale a Trecate
Salve, sono una socia del Club dei Troll, il mio
numero è 1011. Vi mando alcune foto che ho fatto durante
il Carnevale 2007 a Trecate, un paesetto vicino a dove
abito.
Questo gruppo di ragazzi hanno avuto la bella idea di fare
un carro dedicato ai Troll; mi sembra che abbiano fatto un
bel lavoro, voi cosa ne dite?
Spero vi siano piaciute e chissà magari ne pubblicherete
una!

Grazie per averci mandato tutte queste simpatiche foto
del Carnevale di Trecate. E’ esattamente quello che

I send to you some pictures I took during Carnival parade 2007
in Trecate, a cute village close to the one I live.
This group of young persons had the good idea to set up a
float dedicated to Trolls and I think they made a good work,
didn’t they?

Ich bin ein Trollclubmitglied und meine
Mitgliedsnummer ist 1011.
Ich habe euch ein paar Bilder geschickt, die ich während
der Karnevalparade 2007 in Trecate, einem niedlichen
Dorf in der Nähe meines Wohnortes, aufgenommen habe.
Diese Gruppe von jungen Leuten kamen auf die super
Idee einen Wagen den Trollen zu widmen. Und ich bin der
Meinung, dass sie gute Arbeit geleistet haben, oder?

carneval in Trecate. This is exactly what we are always hoping
