Dear Nan
We are having a wonderful holiday here in Gold Coast. Yesterday was great as we went to
Movie World.
When we got up in the morning it looked like rain. After a while the clouds disappeared and it
became a sunny day. We then decided to go to Movie World.
First I went to Lethal Weapon. Next I saw the Police Academy Show. After that I had lunch as
I was really hungry. Meanwhile, Mom and Kelly queued for the Batman ride.
It rained about lunchtime but soon it was fine again. We really enjoyed our holiday.
Bye-bye
Love,
Sam

Dear Readers,
Ever since I became Editor-in-Chief of the Asian Reader’s Digest six months ago, I’ve been dying to
share some exciting news with you. After being based in Australia for almost a decade, our editorial
office has moved to Singapore, bringing it back to Asia in these exciting and important times.
Over the coming months you’ll see the difference our move makes in a hundred little ways. We’ll still
deliver the window on the world you’ve come to expect, but being in the heart of Asia will allow us to
make our local content more … well … local. The magazine will continue to be an engaging mix of
inspirational and informative stories, but the local stories will be more chicken rice than spaghetti and
meatballs.
Starting with this month’s poll on the things that irritate us – we traveled all the way to Shanghai to get
a truly pan-Asia view point – we plan to put more Asian voices into the magazine in 2007. My personal
new year’s resolution is to meet as many of you, our readers, as possible this year to hear what type of
magazine you’d like to see each month.
Reader’s Digest is all about the basic things that make us human – our thirst of knowledge, our emotions,
our desire to make a better life for ourselves and our loved ones. I am excited about being able to bring
all these things and more home to you each month; to help you rediscover the joys of life in Asia.
Sincerely yours,
Hans
Editor in Chief

Petroleum products, such as gasoline, kerosene, home heating oil, residual fuel oil and lubricating
oils, come from one source. Crude oil is found below the earth surface, as well as under large bodies of
water, from a few hundred feet below the surface to as deep as 25.000 feet into the earth interior. Crude
oil is obtained by drilling a hole through the earth, but sometimes more dry holes are drilled than those
producing oil. Pressure at the source, or pumping, forces the crude oil to the surface.
Crude oil wells flow at varying rates, from ten to thousands of barrels per hour. Petroleum products
vary Greatly in physical appearance: thin, thick, transparent, or opaque. Their chemical compositions are
made up of only two elements: carbon and hydrogen, which form compounds called hydrocarbons. Other
chemical elements found in the union classified as impurities. Trace elements are also found, but these
are of such minute quantities that they are disregarded.
The various petroleum products are refined from the crude oil by heating and condensing the vapors
of crude oil. These products are called light oils such gasoline, kerosene, and distillate oil.
Human body is made up of countless millions of cells. Food is needed to build up new cells
and replace the worn out cells. However, the food that we take must be changed into substances that
can be carried in the blood to the places where they are needed. This process is called digestion.
The first digestive process takes place in the mouth. The food we eat is broken up into small
pieces by the action of teeth, mixed with saliva, a juice secreted by glands in the mouth. Saliva contain
digestive juices which moisten the food, so it can be swallowed easily.
From the mouth, food passes through the esophagus (the food passage) into stomach. Here,
the food is mixed with juices secreted by the cells in stomach for several hours. Then the food enters
the small intestine. All time the muscular walls of the intestine are squeezing, mixing and moving the
onwards.
In a few hours, the food changes into acids. These are soon absorbed by the villi (microscopic
branch projections from the intestine walls) and passed into the bloodstream.

Song
Firework
Do you ever feel like a plastic bag
Drifting through the wind, wanting to start again?
Do you ever feel, feel so paper thin
Like a house of cards, one blow from carving in?
Do you ever feel already buried deep?
Six feet under screams, but no one seems to hear a thing
Do you know that there’s still a chance for you
‘cause there’s spark in you
You just gotta ignite the light and let it shine
Just own the night like the 4th July
(Chorus)
‘Cause baby, you’re a firework
Come on, show ‘em what you’re worth
‘Make ‘em go oh, oh, oh
As you shoot across the sky
Baby, you’re a firework
Come on, let your color burst
‘Make ‘em go oh, oh, oh
You’re gonna leave ‘em falling down
You don’t have to feel like a waste of space
You’re original, cannot be replaced
If you only knew what the future holds
After a hurricane comes a rainbow
Maybe you’re reason why all the doors are closed
So you could open one that leads you to a perfect road
Like a lightning bolt, you heart will bow
And when it’s time , you will know
You just gotta ignite the light and let it shine
Just own the night like the 4th July
(back to chorus)
Boom, boom, boom
Even brighter than the moon, moon, moon
It’s always been inside of you, you, you
And now it’s time to let it through
(back to chorus)
Boom, boom, boom
Even brighter than the moon, moon, moon
Boom, boom, boom
Even brighter than the moon, moon, moon
