Game Modifications

Modified net tumbling game:

1. This game focuses on hitting low shots that “tumble” over
the net
2. 2 players, one each side of the court, stand in the service box
and attempt to clear the net and land the shuttle in the
service box of the opponent
3. Scores are kept when players win points
4. If the shuttle goes more than a meter above the net than the
shot does not count and the rally restarts
5. Players must focus on using angles and precision to beat the
opposition
6. Ideally a student would like to hit the top of the net and have
it tumble over to the opposition’s side.

1v1 game with modified boundaries

1. Students play a normal game of singles badminton except the boundaries are
exaggerated to highlight special skills
2. So that students improve the overhead clears, a longer, more narrow court
can be used, this encourages the shot as it is effective for moving opposition
away
3. Similarly, the boundaries can become short and wide to help students work
on their ability to find gaps on the opposition court rather than hit it back to
the opposition
4. Students could even play only cross-court or just on one side of the court too
as a way of focusing them on particular shots.

Hit and catch modified game

1. In this game, each team has 1 player, one player serves and the other catches it
2. After catching the shuttle, they return serve
3. This is a great game for students struggling to hit the shuttle out of the air because it
teaches the fundamentals of the game without needing the required skills
4. As students develop their skills, they can move closer to a less modified game of
badminton
