Game Modifications

1v1 and 2v2 games

 This is a simplified game of volleyball that allows students to catch the
ball before passing it back to the other side of the court
 Students should be paired up evenly as possible to create close games
 If 2v2 students can catch and set the ball for their team mate, this is
good for helping
students cover the
entirety of their
court in defensive
plays
 Scoring can be
added if students
are finding the
game manageable
but usually a
cooperative serve
is the best way to
start to ensure rallies happen

Boundary modifications and exaggerations

 Game boundaries can be changed and made long and narrow or short
and wide to help students work on different types of shots and
strategies
 If students need to work on a certain type of shot then they can even
play cross court only or down the line
 Using cones the teacher can change the dimensions and shape of the
court
significantly
 These drills
are great for
improving
student’s shot
accuracy
Hit and catch game
 This game is exactly what is sounds like
and focuses on students getting into
the right positions as well as simplifying
their shots to ensure technique is
correct
 Students can catch the ball and throw it
up before attempting their shot rather
than just trying a shot out of the air like
in the unmodified game
 This kind of drill is great for beginners
to learn how to move around the court
and can be used for 1v1 all the way up
to 5v5 games
 As ability of students progresses they
can quickly eliminate the catch and
transition into normal gameplay
