This is a simplified game of volleyball that allows students to catch the ball before passing it back to the other side of the court Students should be paired up evenly as possible to create close games If 2v2 students can catch and set the ball for their team mate, this is good for helping students cover the entirety of their court in defensive plays Scoring can be added if students are finding the game manageable but usually a cooperative serve is the best way to start to ensure rallies happen
Boundary modifications and exaggerations
Game boundaries can be changed and made long and narrow or short and wide to help students work on different types of shots and strategies If students need to work on a certain type of shot then they can even play cross court only or down the line Using cones the teacher can change the dimensions and shape of the court significantly These drills are great for improving student’s shot accuracy Hit and catch game This game is exactly what is sounds like and focuses on students getting into the right positions as well as simplifying their shots to ensure technique is correct Students can catch the ball and throw it up before attempting their shot rather than just trying a shot out of the air like in the unmodified game This kind of drill is great for beginners to learn how to move around the court and can be used for 1v1 all the way up to 5v5 games As ability of students progresses they can quickly eliminate the catch and transition into normal gameplay
