File > Open or File > Save As Crash

Problem
Mastercam is crashing while in the File > Open or File > Save As dialog.

Cause
Mastercam is conflicting with Microsoft® products and an Intel® graphics driver, which can result in a crash scenario for users with
certain system configurations. The crash only appears to be happening with these versions of Mastercam:

Mastercam 2019

Mastercam 2020
The following need to be installed on a system to experience the crash:

Microsoft Windows 10

Microsoft Office (32- or 64-bit)

Mastercam 2019 or Mastercam 2020

An Intel (on-board) graphics card driver version 22 or later

Solution
Currently, there is no solution to the problem. We have several workarounds that will help make a system experiencing this
problem more stable, but until our investigation with Microsoft is complete, we do not know what is causing this conflict. It is very
important to enable AutoSave in File > Configuration > Files > AutoSave / Backup.

Workaround should be attempted in this order:

1. Disable the Intel graphics card in system BIOS. This is not possible on all systems.

2. Install Version 21 or earlier of the Intel Graphics driver. The current driver version can be found under

Programs and Features under the Intel Graphics Driver entry. This driver can be found on system

manufacturers' websites. Dell, for example, archives several releases of every driver listed under the service

tag for a specific system.

3. Disable thumbnail generation in Windows. This will prevent the crash, but will also not allow part file or bitmap

previews of all files system wide.

4. Rename "groove.exe" or "grooveex.dll". Windows Update will try to restore these files, so this is only a

temporary workaround. Click here for instructions.
