EFFECT OF LEADING-EDGE RADIUS IN UNSYMMETRICAL AEROFOIL
Basically, the aerofoil is said to be the 2-D structure of a wing. They are two types
of aerofoils be present. They are:
1.symmetrical aerofoil
2.unsymmetrical aerofoil
In every aerofoil they are two edges be present. The edge
which is present at starting is said be leading edge and the edge at end said as
trailing edge. In this the target of the task is to change the leading-edge radius
of an aerofoil with various angles of attacks. By changing this we can able to
know that which leading edge performance be better. There is also change in
the lift and drag performances by having various leading edges. The shapes of
various leading edges used in this are cone, elliptical and circular. By using these
different types of leading edge, we suppose to find the best type which is having
a good performance by having which shape.
By doing this first we want to fabricate the aerofoil which
is different leading edge such as cone, elliptical and circular. After that we want
to paint those fabricated models using high grade paint, it is because reduce the
effect of skin friction drag in order to obtain the same properties of as which like
an aircraft wing while testing it. After that we suppose to have a to drill in two
places under of that aerofoil. This drilling is done normally by using the drilling
machine. This drilling is done softly and see that there is no damage to be done
to aerofoil. This drilling is done to aerofoil is because of that to place or fix that
aerofoil in the wind tunnels. In every wind tunnel the points be given to place or
fix the aerofoil in that points. Basically, in every wind tunnel the air flow in high
level and passes through aerofoil and see that performance of the aerofoil at
high level air flow in the wind tunnel. In this also after drilling is completed the
aerofoil be kept in the wind tunnel to check the performance. In these three
aerofoils which we having a different shape should be placed in a tunnel and
check their performance.
PRAMOD 2

The aerofoil which was taken or fabricated is that by taking a

reference of NACA-2412. In this the starting 2 indicates the maximum camber
and that is 2% of chord length. The next number 4 indicates the maximum
camber position and that is 40% of the chord length. And the 12 said to be
thickness percentage of the chord length.
In this if the radius of leading edge be present in small and large
in size. If the radius be increased then performance of aerofoil be decreases and
if the radius be decreased then the performance of aerofoil increases. NACA
2412 should not be considered as the reference aerofoil for fabrication of
symmetrical aerofoils. It is because in this maximum camber and the position of
that camber and the thickness be present. But for symmetrical aerofoil only the
thickness be present, so in that it should not be considered.
The work plan for preparation of all these is that it takes nearly
one month for fabricate the three different shapes of aerofoils. After that it
should be painted for two weeks it is because it wants to paint double coating
as based on layers. Then drilling and testing it in the wind tunnel should takes
three weeks. And by seeing the values of wind tunnel testing then we suppose
to do calculations and want to select the good performance unsymmetrical
aerofoil shape.
