English is my mother tongue. Besides, I can speak French and Spanish. I studied the two languages
when I was at high school. Now, I am still learning Spanish at the University. As for me, mastering
a foreign language is not easy. After studying a language, practice is very necessary and useful.
Travelling to the country where the target language is spoken is very helpful, but if you can not
speak the language well enough you will certainly have troubles. I also frequently go to the movies,
watch television, listen to the radio in the language I am trying to learn. Reading is another good
way to learn. Books are good, but I personally think newspapers and magazines are better.
However, getting some knowledge of the language is the most important thing. Grammar and
vocabulary should be mastered first.

If you want to do your best in an exam, you should be relaxed and so one of the best things to do is
to take regular breaks even if they are only for a few minutes. During revision time, you should
take some time off to go for a walk or play your favorite sport. It is a mistake to take up all
physical activities. Exercise can help you to relax. You should spend at least twenty minutes doing
something different every day. Parents don’t like it when their teenage children spend hours on the
phone, but, in fact, talking to a friend is very good for you; parents think that children are wasting
time and money; but research says talking to friends gives you a chance to relax, and this will make
the time you spend studying more effective.

Many smokers realize the danger they are taking when they light up a cigarette, but many of
them find it impossible to quit. Now, some smokers say that the beam of a laser can help them.
Michael Defoe, the founder of Advanced Laser Therapy, said that his laser technique can
help people quit smoking and up to 80% of the smokers get success in giving up smoking .
For smoker Tom Munroe, laser treatment is the final way. A two-pack-a-day smoker for
more than 30 years, he has high expectations that the laser can help him get rid of the habit once
and for all .“ I think I’ve always had the desire, but I couldn’t find a treatment to support the desire
to quit, “ Munroe said.
The laser delivers a beam of light just below the surface of the skin, targeting specific points
that Defoe says stimulate the release of endorphins, which provide the pleasurable feelings which
smokers get when they light up.

Mrs Brown had a small garden behind her house, and in the spring she ………….planted
some vegetables in it. She looked after them very carefully, and when the summer came, they
looked very nice.
One morning, her son ran into the kitchen and shouted, “Mother, mother! Come quickly!
Our neighbour’s ducks are eating our vegetables! ”
Mrs Brown ran out, but it was too late! All the vegetables were finished. Mrs Brown cried, and her
neighbour was very sorry, but that was the end of the vegetables.
Then a few days before Christmas, the neighbour brought Mrs Brown a parcel. In it was a
beautiful, fat duck, and on it was a piece of paper with the words “Enjoy your vegetables!”

When my parents married, they rented a small house and they didn’t have a lot of money for
furniture. The kitchen had a sink for washing up and a cooker, but that was all. They bought an old
table and chair from the market. They borrowed a sofa which was also old, but they covered it with
modern materials so it was bright and cheerful.
Outside, there was a small garden behind the house, but in front of it there was only the road.
Luckily the road wasn’t busy, so I could cross it to reach the park on the opposite side. We lived
there until I was ten and we were very happy. We had to move house because it was too small when
my twin sisters were born. We all felt sad when we left.
