“The State shall pursue a
“ policy of economic growth in
a manner consistent with the
protection, preservation and
revival of the quality of the
country’s fresh, brackish and
marine waters”

Section 2 of Clean Water Act of 2004

(Republic Act 9275) 8
OBJECTIVES 📌
This case study
primarily aims to design a
cylindrical sedimentation
tank that is suitable for
removing the greatest
number of particles in the
wastewater in the problem
given.
9
OBJECTIVES 📌
▪ To derive an equation from the settling
velocities of the particles that will
determine the optimum value of overflow
rate
▪ To perform a case study analysis that will
determine the height and diameter of the
tank design, critical overflow rate and
optimum value of removal efficiency of the
process involved. 10
OBJECTIVES 📌
▪ To have a comprehensive study of rule of
thumb and design construction of the
Wastewater Sedimentation Tank
▪ To incorporate all the design considerations
established by constructing a 2D and 3D
prototype using AUTOCAD
▪ To conduct a Multi Criteria Decision Making
(MCDM) analysis for the design material
construction. 11

EQUATIONS USED

Detention time, t, is
𝑯 equal to the height
𝒕= divided by the overflow
𝑽𝒐 rate.

16
EQUATIONS USED

The other definition of

𝑳 detention time, t, which
𝒕= is equal to the length
𝑽𝒉 divided by the
horizontal velocity.

17
EQUATIONS USED

Based from the previous

𝑸 equation, the definition
𝑽𝒉 = of horizontal velocity,
𝑨 Vh, is equal to the
influent flowrate divided
by the cross sectional
area, A.
. 18
EQUATIONS USED
𝑸
𝑽𝑶 = The formula for the
𝑨𝒑 overflow rate is equal to
the ratio of the influent
where flow rate, Q, over the
𝛑𝑫𝟐 plan area of the basin,
𝐀𝐩 = Ap.
