SAFETY RULES
1. Preparations before working in a laboratory

◦ Understand the instruction and rules.

◦ Wearing laboratory coat, goggles, gloves, gas mask

◦ Understand about material safety data sheet (MSDS) of the chemical solution or other
material.

2. Precautions
a) When work with inflammable materials:

Avoid materials that can trigger fire, it is better to put it in a locked cupboard.

b) When work with acid materials:

Use complete safety equipment such as goggles, gloves, gas mask, laboratory
coat, and safety shoes. Must understand the material safety data sheet of an acid that will
be used, and avoid direct physical contact with part of body.

c) When want to minimize the risk of a fire:

Storage of inflammable materials in a place that is not close to a flame, a spark, or


something that can ignite a fire. Avoid playing with fire, and be careful when using a hot
plate or bunsen burner.

d) When operate a new equipment :

The use of equipment must be in accordance with standard operating procedures


(SOP) and not exceed the operating limits.
e) When want to avoid electric shock :

Avoid electrical cables that are not suitable for use, such as cables that have been
peeled and cables that will break. And do not hold or plug the cable into the socket with a
wet hand. And avoid cables from humid places or close to water sources.

f) When there is risk of injury to the eyes :

Must use goggles when do the work and if the chemicals material are already
affected by the eyes, the first aid to do is rinse the eyes with running water.

3. How do you end your work in alboratory before you leave it?

 Clean up and restore all of the equipments.

 Cleaning the laboratory.

4. What will you do when an accident take place during an experiment ?

 Don’t panic and immadiately cope the accident calmly.

5. What will you do when your classmate is injured of scalding?

 Soaking the part of body that affected heat into ice water then compressed.

6. How do you cope with somebody who is being elecrocuted?

 Turn of the power source first.

7. What will you do if your classmate is poisoned?

 Immediately call a doctor and inform substances are ingested and then provide warm water
when my classmate had vomited.

8. Why is discipline important when you work in a laboratory?

 To decreased accident rate and lab activities can be maximixed and well.

9. What will carelessness result in?

 There will be an accident in the laboratory.
