ISLAMIC STUDIES

ASSIGNMENT - I
Why do you think Allah (SWT) created mankind? In your opinion, what
could be the consequences if one forgets the purpose of his/her life?

At some point in a person’s life, some questions do pop up in his/her

mind. These questions must be answered to get rid of the confusion in
one’s head.

The most necessary question, that not only Muslims but also non-
Muslims want to get answered is “Why did God create us?
What’s the purpose of this life?”

Many of us did get our questions answered by our elders or the people
whom we considered knowledgeable, but somehow the answers we got
were quite unsatisfying.

So it is important that when a Muslim addresses this topic rather than

making assumptions or asking the humans who are just going to explain
their own perspective, it is better to consider the perfect divine manual
of Allah (SWT), the Holy Quran, which was revealed to guide the
humankind.

In the Holy Quran, the purpose of one’s life and the reason behind the
creation of mankind has been stated in many verses.

“I have created the jinn and Humankind only for my worship.”

[Quran 51:56]
As stated in Quran, humankind was created to worship Allah (SWT) but
this doesn’t mean that the Al Khaliq (Creator) is in need of human
worship. If a person refuses to worship Allah (SWT), it would never be a
problem for Him nor would it decrease His glory but for the person who
forgot Allah, it would be equivalent of forgetting his own self. God
doesn’t need humans but we are in a need of Him and His mercy.

“Indeed we belong to Allah and indeed to Him we will return.”

[Quran 2:156]

If the man contemplates himself as a superior being and the greatest act
of creation, then he needs to get his facts straight because Allah stated
in Quran that:

“The creation of the heavens and the earth is indeed greater then the
creation of mankind, yet most of the mankind know not.”
[Quran 40:57]

Allah (SWT) have declared Himself as the creator several times in the
Holy Quran. So it is obligatory for a creator to create the finest of His
creations and indeed Allah (SWT) is the maker of everything between the
earth and the haven which too has a proof in the Holy Quran:

“Allah is creator of all things, and He is the One, the Supreme.”

[Quran 13:16]

Coming to the purpose of one’s life, Allah has given us right to make our
own decision. It’s completely on us that how we choose to utilize this
time that Allah have granted us. Whether we follow the instructions of
the Quran and Sunnah of Prophet (PBUH) or just play around.

“Do you think that we had created you in play (without any purpose) and
that you would not be brought back to us” [Al-Mu’minun 115-116]
The goal of everyone’s life should be pleasing Allah in such a way that
he/she would be granted Jannah as a reward to their good deeds.
Remembrance of God is a great honour but some of us has forgotten the
fundamental purpose of this life.

In today’s world, everyone is busy running after money thinking as if this

world is never going to come to an end. Humans consider themselves as
the most superior and immortal creatures and yet they keep searching
for the peace of mind, which cannot be bought. A person finds his peace
when his/her mind is calm and this can only be possible with
Remembrance of Allah (SWT).

Despite all these signs, many of us are still arrogant and does not fear the
wrath of Allah (SWT). For such people who has forgot their purpose of
life, which is surely worshipping Allah (SWT), will not only be punished in
the Hereafter but also in this world. God stats in Quran:

“And whoever turns away from my remembrance - Indeed he will have

a depressed life and We will gather him on the Day of Resurrection
blind.” [Quran 20:124]

When someone forgets Allah, Allah forget them. The person gets
involved in the worldly things so much that there is no coming back from
it.

The mankind detaches itself from Allah (SWT), resulting in a bond with
Satan and letting go of the right path. The Holy Quran stresses upon the
punishment of these sinners is such words:

“Satan has overcome them and made them forget the remembrance of
Allah. Those are the party of Satan. Unquestionably, the party of Satan -
they will be the losers. Indeed, the ones who oppose Allah and His
Messenger - those will be among the most humbled. Allah has written, "I
will surely overcome, I and My messengers." Indeed, Allah is Powerful
and Exalted in Might.” [Surah Al-Mujadila 19-21]

On the day of Judgment everyone will be answerable to their deeds. That

would be the time when the person who forgot their purpose of life and
didn’t follow Quran, will regret every single moment he/she wasted on
these worldly pleasures. However, Allah (SWT) is the most Merciful
hence if a person asks for His Mercy from the core of his heart and come
back to Allah (SWT) in his life, Insha’Allah the Al-Mighty will forgive him
as stated in Quran:

“Indeed Mercy of Allah is near to the doers of good.” [Quran 7:56]
