INTRODUCTION
The automotive industry is a wide range of companies and organizations involved
in the design, development, manufacturing, marketing, and selling of motor
vehicles, some of them are called automakers. It is one of the world's most
important economic sectors by revenue. The automotive industry does not include
industries dedicated to the maintenance of automobiles following delivery to the
end-user, such as automobile repair shops and motor fuel filling stations.
The term automotive was created from Greek autos (self), and Latin motivus (of
motion) to represent any form of self-powered vehicle. This term was proposed
by Elmer Sperry.
With a scintillating 2.3 million units produced in 2008 the Indian automobile
industry bagged the position of being the ninth largest in the world. Following
economic liberalization, Indian domestic automobile companies like Tata Motors
Maruti Suzuki and Mahindra and Mahindra expanded their production and export
operations in and across the country and since then the industry has only shown signs
of growth. The automobile industry comprises of heavy vehicles (trucks, buses,
tempos, tractors), passenger cars, and two-wheelers.

The Indian automobile industry seems to come a long way since the first car that
was manufactured in Mumbai in 1898. The automobile sector today is one of the key
sectors of the country contributing majorly to the economy of India. It directly and
indirectly provides employment to over 10 million people in the country. The Indian
automobile industry has a well established name globally being the second largest
two wheeler market in the world, fourth largest commercial vehicle market in the
world, and eleventh largest passenger car market in the world and expected to
become the third largest automobile market in the world only behind USA and
China.

The growth of the Indian middleclass along with the growth of the economy over
the last few years has resulted in a host of global auto giants setting their foot inside
the Indian Territory. Moreover India also provides trained manpower at competitive
costs making the country a manufacturing hub for many foreign automobile
companies. India proves to be a potential market as compared to most of the other
countries which are witnessing stagnation as far as automobile industry growth is
concerned.
1.2 IMPORTANCE OF THE STUDY
Increasing competition, ever growing market, easy availability of the finances
and increasing population of young executives with huge disposable income, over
the past years has substantially increased the sales in the automobile industry. Also
the competition among the dealers of the product has increased with each trying to

 II FINDINGS AND SUGGESTIONS
 III CONCLUSION
DEFINITION
The automotive industry in India is one of the largest in the world with an annual
production of 23.96 million vehicles in FY (fiscal year) 2015–16, following a growth
of 2.57 per cent over the last year. The automobile industry accounts for 7.1 per cent
of the country's gross domestic product (GDP). The Two Wheelers segment, with
81 per cent market share, is the leader of the Indian Automobile market, owing to a
growing middle class and a young population. Moreover, the growing interest of
companies in exploring the rural markets further aided the growth of the sector. The
overall Passenger Vehicle (PV) segment has 13 per cent market share.
India is also a prominent auto exporter and has strong export growth expectations
for the near future. In FY 2014–15, automobile exports grew by 15 per cent over the
last year. In addition, several initiatives by the Government of India and the major
automobile players in the Indian market are expected to make India a leader in the
Two Wheeler (2W) and Four Wheeler (4W) market in the world by 2020.
Market Size
The industry produced a total 14.25 million vehicles including PVs, commercial
vehicles (CVs), three wheelers (3W) and 2W in April–October 2015, as against
13.83 in April–October 2014, registering a marginal growth of 3.07 per cent, year-
to-year.
The sales of PVs grew by 8.51 per cent in April–October 2015 over the same period
in the previous year. The overall CVs segment registered a growth of 8.02 per cent
in April–October 2015 as compared to same period last year. Medium and Heavy
Commercial Vehicles (M&HCVs) registered very strong growth of 32.3 per cent
while sales of Light Commercial Vehicles (LCVs) declined by 5.24 per cent during
April–October 2015, year-to-year.
In April–October 2015, overall automobile exports grew by 5.78 per cent. PVs, CVs,
3Ws and 2Ws registered growth of 6.34 per cent, 17.95 per cent, 18.59 per cent and
3.22 per cent, respectively, in April–October 2015 over April–October 2014.
Government Initiatives
The Government of India encourages foreign investment in the automobile sector
and allows 100 per cent FDI under the automatic route.
Some of the major initiatives taken by the Government of India are:
 The Government of India aims to make automobile manufacturing the main
driver of "Make in India" initiative, as it expects the passenger vehicles market
to triple to 9.4 million units by 2026, as highlighted in the Auto Mission Plan
(AMP) 2016-26.
 In the Union budget of 2015-16, the Government has announced plans to
provide credit of Rs 850,000 crore (US$127.5 billion) to farmers, which is
expected to boost sales in the tractors segment.
 The government plans to promote eco-friendly cars in the country—i.e. CNG-
based vehicles, hybrid vehicles, and electric vehicles—and also to make
mandatory 5 per cent ethanol blending in petrol.
 The government has formulated a Scheme for Faster Adoption and
Manufacturing of Electric and Hybrid Vehicles in India, under the National
Electric Mobility Mission 2020, to encourage the progressive introduction of
reliable, affordable, and efficient electric and hybrid vehicles into the country.
 The Automobile Mission Plan (AMP) for the period 2006–2016, designed by
the government is aimed at accelerating and sustaining growth in this sector.
Also, the well-established Regulatory Framework under the Ministry of
Shipping, Road Transport and Highways, plays a part in providing a boost to
this sector.

History
The automotive industry began in the 1890s with hundreds of manufacturers that
pioneered the horseless carriage. For many decades, the United States led the world
in total automobile production. In 1929, before the Great Depression, the world had
32,028,500 automobiles in use, and the U.S. automobile industry produced over 90%
of them. At that time the U.S. had one car per 4.87 persons. After World War II, the
U.S. produced about 75 percent of world's auto production. In 1980, the U.S. was
overtaken by Japan and became world's leader again in 1994. In 2006, Japan
narrowly passed the U.S. in production and held this rank until 2009, when China
took the top spot with 13.8 million units. With 19.3 million units manufactured in
2012, China almost doubled the U.S. production, with 10.3 million units, while
Japan was in third place with 9.9 million units. From 1970 (140 models) over 1998
(260 models) to 2012 (684 models), the number of automobile models in the U.S.
has grown exponentially.
Safety
Safety is a state that implies to be protected from any risk, danger, damage or cause
of injury. In the automotive industry, safety means that users, operators
or manufacturers do not face any risk or danger coming from the motor vehicle or
its spare parts. Safety for the autmobiles themselves, implies that there is no risk of
damage.
Safety in the automotive industry is particularly important and therefore highly
regulated. Automobiles and other motor vehicles have to comply with a certain
number of norms and regulations, whether local or international, in order to be
accepted on the market. The standard ISO 26262, is considered as one of the best
practice framework for achieving automotive functional safety.
In case of safety issues, danger, product defect or faulty procedure during the
manufacturing of the motor vehicle, the maker can request to return either a batch or
the entire production run. This procedure is called product recall. Product recalls
happen in every industry and can be production-related or stem from the raw
material.
Product and operation tests and inspections at different stages of the value chain are
made to avoid these product recalls by ensuring end-user security and safety and
compliance with the automotive industry requirements. However, the automotive
industry is still particularly concerned about product recalls, which cause
considerable financial consequences.
Economy
Around the world, there were about 806 million cars and light trucks on the road in
2007, consuming over 980 billion litres (980,000,000 m3) of gasoline and diesel fuel
yearly. The automobile is a primary mode of transportation for many developed
economies. The Detroit branch of Boston Consulting Group predicts that, by 2014,
one-third of world demand will be in the four BRIC markets (Brazil, Russia, India
and China). Meanwhile, in the developed countries, the automotive industry has
slowed down.] It is also expected that this trend will continue, especially as the
younger generations of people (in highly urbanized countries) no longer want to own
a car anymore, and prefer other modes of transport.] Other potentially powerful
automotive markets are Iran and Indonesia.[ Emerging auto markets already buy
more cars than established markets. According to a J.D. Power study, emerging
markets accounted for 51 percent of the global light-vehicle sales in 2010. The study,
performed in 2010 expected this trend to accelerate. However, more recent reports
(2012) confirmed the opposite; namely that the automotive industry was slowing
down even in BRIC countries. In the United States, vehicle sales peaked in 2000, at
17.8 million units.
In 1897, the first car ran on an Indian road. Through the 1930s, cars were imports
only, and in small numbers.
An embryonic automotive industry emerged in India in the 1940s. Hindustan
Motors was launched in 1942, long-time competitor Premier in 1944,
building Chrysler, Dodge, and Fiat products respectively.[4] Mahindra &
Mahindra was established by two brothers in 1945, and began assembly of Jeep CJ-
3A utility vehicles. Following independence in 1947, the Government of India and
the private sector launched efforts to create an automotive-component
manufacturing industry to supply to the automobile industry. In 1953, an import
substitution programme was launched, and the import of fully built-up cars began to
be restricted.[4]
The 1952 Tariff CommissionIn 1952, the government appointed the first Tariff
Commission, one of whose purposes was to come out with a feasibility plan for the
indigenization of the Indian automobile industry. In 1953, the commission submitted
their report, which recommended categorizing existing Indian car companies
according to their manufacturing infrastructure, with licensed capacity to
manufacture a certain number of vehicles, with capacity increases allowable, as per
demands, in the future. The Tariff Commission recommendations were implemented
with new policies that would eventually exclude companies that only imported parts
for assembly, as well as those with no Indian partner. In 1954, following the Tariff
Commission implementation, General Motors, Ford, and Rootes Group, which had
assembly-only plants in Mumbai, decided to move out of India.[5]
The Tariff commission policies, including similar restrictions that applied to other
industries, came to be known as the "license raj", which proved to be the greatest
undoing of the Indian automotive industry, where bureaucratic red tape ended up
causing demand to outstrip supply, with month-long waiting periods for cars,
scooters, and motorcycles.
Passenger Cars
 Hindustan Motors, Calcutta - technical collaboration with Morris Motors to
manufacture Morris Oxford models that would later become HM
Ambassador.
 Premier Automobiles, Bombay - technical collaboration with Chrysler to
manufacture Dodge, Plymouth and Desoto models and with Fiat to
manufacture the 1100D models which would later with Premier
Padmini range.
 Standard Motor Products of India, Madras - technical collaboration
from Standard-Triumph to manufacture Standard Vanguard, Standard 8, 10
and later Standard Herald.
Utility and Light Commercial Vehicles
 Vehicle Factory Jabalpur - started manufacturing Jonga Light Utility Vehicles
and Vahan 1 Ton (Nissan 4W73 Carriers) in India, under license
from Nissan of Japan. They were the main troop carriers of the Indian Armed
Forces and much powerful than any other vehicle of their class.
 Mahindra & Mahindra, Bombay - technical collaboration with Willys to
manufacture CJ Series Jeep.
 Bajaj Tempo, Poona now Force Motors - technical collaboration with Tempo
(company) to manufacture Tempo Hanseat, a three-wheeler and Tempo
Viking and Hanomag, later known as Tempo Matador in India.
 Standard Motor Products of India - technical collaboration from Standard has
licence to manufacture the Standard Atlas passenger van with panel van and
one-tonne one tonne pickup variants.
Medium and Heavy Commercial Vehicles
 Vehicle Factory Jabalpur - started manufacturing Shaktiman trucks with
technical assistance from MAN SE of Germany. The trucks were the main
logistics vehicle of the Indian Army with several specialist variants. VFJ still
is the sole supplier of B vehicles to the Indian Armed Forces.
 Heavy Vehicles Factory - was established in 1965 in Avadi, near Chennai to
produce tanks in India. Since its inception, HVF has produced all the tanks of
India, including Vijayanta, Arjun, Ajeya, Bhishma and their variants for
the Indian Army. HVF is the only tank manufacturing facility of India.
 Tata Motors, Poona, then known as TELCO - technical collaboration
with Mercedes Benz to manufacture medium to heavy commercial vehicles
both Bus and Trucks.
 Ashok Motors, later Ashok Leyland, Madras - technical collaboration
with Leyland Motors to manufacture medium to heavy commercial vehicles
both Bus and Trucks. Ashok Motors also discontinued its Austin venture
formed in 1948 to sell Austin A40 and retooled the factory to make trucks and
buses.
 Hindustan Motors - technical collaboration with General Motors to
manufacture the Bedford range of medium lorry and bus chassis.
 Premier Automobiles - technical collaboration with Chrysler to manufacture
the Dodge, Fargo range of medium lorry, panel vans, mini-bus and bus
chassis.
 Simpsons & Co, Madras - part of Amalgamations Group (TAFE Tractors)-
technical collaboration with Ford to manufacture medium lorry and bus
chassis, but did not utilise that option until the 1980s.
1970 to 1983
However, growth was relatively slow in the 1950s and 1960s, due to nationalisation
and the license raj, hampered the growth of Indian private sector.
The beginning of the 1970s saw some growth potential and most of the collaboration
license agreements came to an end but with option to continue manufacturing with
renewed branding. Cars were still meant for the elite and Jeeps were largely used by
government organizations and some rural belts. In commercial vehicle segments
some developments were made by the end of the decade to cater improved goods
movements. The two-wheeler segment remained unchanged except for to increased
sales in urban among middle class. But more fillip was target towards farm tractors
as India was embarking on a new Green Revolution. More Russian and eastern bloc
imports were done to increase the demand.
But after 1970, with restrictions on the import of vehicles set, the automotive
industry started to grow; but the growth was mainly driven by tractors, commercial
vehicles and scooters. Cars still remained a major luxury item. In the 1970s, price
controls were finally lifted, inserting a competitive element into the automobile
market.[6] However, by the 1980s, the automobile market was still dominated
by Hindustan and Premier, who sold superannuated products in fairly limited
numbers.[7] During the eighties, a few competitors began to arrive on the scene.
The OPEC oil crisis saw increase need to installing or redesign some vehicle to fit
diesel engines on medium commercial vehicle. Until the early 1970s Mahindra Jeeps
were on Petrol and Premier commercial vehicles had Petrol model options. The
Defence sector too had most trucks on Pertol engines.
1984 to 1992
From the end of the 1970s to the beginning of the 1980s saw no new models but the
country continued with 2 decade old designs forcing government to encourage and
let more manufacturers into fray.
In 1984, the then Prime Minister of India, Indira Gandhi established the Ordnance
Factory Medak, near Hyderabad. It started manufacturing Infantry Combat
Vehicles christened as Sarath, the backbone of India's mechanised infantry. OFMK
is still the only manufacturing facility of ICVs in India. To manufacture the high-
power engines used in ICVs and main battle tanks, Engine Factory Avadi,
near Chennai was set in 1987. In 1986, to promote the auto industry, the government
established the Delhi Auto Expo. The 1986 Expo was a showcase for how the Indian
automotive industry was absorbing new technologies, promoting indigenous
research and development, and adapting these technologies for the rugged conditions
of India. The nine-day show was attended by then Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi.
Post-1992 liberalisation
Eventually multinational automakers, such as, Suzuki and Toyota of Japan
and Hyundai of South Korea, were allowed to invest in the Indian market, furthering
the establishment of an automotive industry in India. Maruti Suzuki was the first,
and the most successful of these new entries, and in part the result of government
policies to promote the automotive industry beginning in the 1980s.[7] As India began
to liberalise its automobile market in 1991, a number of foreign firms also initiated
joint ventures with existing Indian companies. The variety of options available to
the consumer began to multiply in the nineties, whereas before there had usually
only been one option in each price class. By 2000, there were 12 large automotive
companies in the Indian market, most of them offshoots of global companies.[8]
Slow export growth
Exports were slow to grow. Sales of small numbers of vehicles to tertiary markets
and neighbouring countries began early, and in 1987 Maruti Suzuki shipped 480 cars
to Europe (Hungary). After some growth in the mid-nineties, exports once again
began to drop as the outmoded platforms provided to Indian manufacturers by
multinationals were not competitive.[9] This was not to last, and today India
manufactures low-priced cars for markets across the globe. As of 18 March 2013,
global brands such as Proton Holdings, PSA
Group, Kia, Mazda, Chrysler, Dodge and Geely Holding Group were shelving plans
for India due to the competitiveness of the market, as well as the global economic
crisis.[10]
Emission norms
In 2000, in line with international standards to reduce vehicular pollution, the central
government unveiled standards titled "India 2000", with later, upgraded guidelines
to be known as Bharat Stage emission standards. These standards are quite similar
to the stringent European emission standards and have been implemented in a phased
manner. Bharat Stage IV (BS-IV), the most stringent so far, was implemented first,
in April 2010, in 13 cities—
Delhi (NCR), Mumbai, Kolkata, Chennai, Bangalore, Hyderabad, Ahmedabad, Pu
ne, Surat, Kanpur, Lucknow, Solapur, and Agra—and then, as of April 2017, the rest
of the nation.

Hyundai Motor India Ltd is a wholly owned subsidiary of the Hyundai Motor
Company in India. It is the second largest automobile manufacturer in India.
Hyundai Motor India Limited was formed on 6 May 1996 by the Hyundai Motor
Company of South Korea. When Hyundai Motor Company entered the Indian
Automobile Market in 1996 the Hyundai brand was almost unknown throughout
India. During the entry of Hyundai in 1996, there were only five major automobile
manufacturers in India,
i.e. Maruti, Hindustan, Premier, Tata and Mahindra. Daewoo had entered the Indian
automobile market with Cielo just three years back while Ford, Opel and Honda had
entered less than a year back.
For more than a decade till Hyundai arrived, Maruti Suzuki had a
near monopoly over the passenger cars segment because Tata Motors and Mahindra
& Mahindra were solely utility and commercial vehicle manufacturers, while
Hindustan and Premier both built outdated and uncompetitive products.

The first generation i10 had its world premiere on 31 October 2007, in New Delhi,
India. It is produced in India at Hyundai's Chennai plant for the domestic and export
markets.
In Europe, it has four different versions: Classic, Style, Comfort and Eco Blue
Version, with a smaller 1.0-litre engine. All versions come with front electric
windows, ABS, air conditioning and an RDS radio/CD player.
Background
Hyundai started development of the i10 to replace the Hyundai Atos, also known as
the Santro. The development for the concept was code-named Hyundai PA. The car
was targeted primarily at the Indian market and intended for production in India,
given the popularity of hatchback subcompacts in the country.
Styling
The i10 has a large gaping air-dam, pulled-back headlamps, chrome-lined grill,
integrated clear lens fog lamps, a bonnet that has a clam shell hint and a rear window
with an upswept kink.
Interior
The tailgate has a chrome-lined boot-release handle and an integrated roof spoiler
on the top- end versions.
Overall length (3,565 mm) and wheelbase (2,380 mm) are identical to the Santro
with slightly more interior space; Ergonomic design was intended to accommodate
tall drivers and increasing rear knee room. The width has been increased (and front
and rear track) by 70 mm (2.8 in) for more shoulder room. The height has been
reduced by 40 mm (1.6 in). Boot space at 225 litres (7.9 cu ft) is significantly lower
than that of Getz.
Interior
The interior has a plastic dash housing with an optional integrated stereo. The
instrument binnacle has a large white-faced speedometer, flanked by the tachometer
and fuel and temperature gauges.
The gear lever is built into the centre console, leaving space between the front seats
for a couple of cup holders.
Facelift
2011 facelift
In September 2010, Hyundai introduced a facelift for the i10. Sporting an innovative
design look and an array of contemporary features.
Exteriors
Hyundai introduced an all-new front-end design inspired by the Fluidic Sculpture
design language. Its centrepiece is a new radiator grill which features chrome
detailing. It also boasts a bracing set of 3D wraparound headlamps with multi-
reflector chrome surround fog lamps. The bumpers have also been redesigned with
a new front grille to lend a more aggressive look.
It also features a micro roof antenna, body colour door handles and the side indicator
lights incorporated on the outside rear view mirror. The rear of new i10 boasts of
sleek and elongated tail lamps, bold rear bumper with body coloured inserts as well
as rear bumper reflectors and trendy full wheel cover.
Interiors
The new i10 has a two-tone beige and light brown colour in certain markets. To
impart a more aesthetic appeal, the interiors have been accentuated with chrome and
silver accents at multiple points. Other interesting design features like metal finish
centre console, new instrument cluster, blue interior illumination, etc., have been
added to offer a more luxurious and ergonomic experience.
Apart from this, the i10 brings in a host of highly innovative design features like
first- in-segment gear shift indicator display (M/T only), digital fuel indicator,
Bluetooth, steering mounted audio & bluetooth controls and multiple power outlets
Engines
i10 iRDE 1.1
The i10 was launched with a 1.1 litre 65 bhp (48 kW; 66 PS) I4 iRDE engine - the
same motor used in the Kia Picanto and Hyundai Atos Prime/Santro Xing but with
lower CO2emissions.
i10 Kappa 1.2
The i10 also comes with a 1.2 litre petrol Euro-5 compliant engine (called the Kappa
engine), with the same CO2 emissions as the 1.1L version. The spark plug of the
1.2L is non-standard.
i10 Diesel
A 1.1 litre 3-cylinder diesel CRDi variant is available in Europe but has not yet been
introduced into the UK and Indian market.
i10 Electric
Hyundai recently launched the i10 Electric in Delhi Auto Expo; it is expected to be
available in India by 2011 The i10-based electric car is called BlueOn.
i10 Kappa-2 1.2
In 2010 Hyundai launched a facelifted version of the i10 in India which uses a Kappa
2 engine with VTVT Technology to further improve performance of this engine.
Hyundai engineers have taken the existing 1.2-litre 4-cylinder Kappa engine and
added VTVT (Variable Timing and Valve Train). The i10 is the first small car in the
country to receive variable valve timing making it, on paper at least, the most
sophisticated 1.2-litre engine in its segment (the Honda Jazz also has an i-VTEC
head but is a segment higher). This system, working on the intake side, helps in
altering the valve timing and lift according to the situation and thus improves low-
end responses and fuel efficiency. VTVT hasn’t increased the horsepower and it is
still rated at 80 PS (59 kW; 79 hp). However the engine is reported to feel more
refined and show very little vibration at higher revs
Accolades and feats
Hyundai i10 was widely recognised as "Car of the Year 2008" by various automotive
magazines and TV channels in India like BS Motoring, CNBC-
TV18 AutoCar, NDTV Profit Car & Bike India and Overdrive magazine. The car
was conferred with the Indian Car of the Year (ICOTY) by automotive media of the
country.
In Malaysia the Hyundai i10 has also earned recognition through many awards such
as the Best People's Car in the Asian Auto – VCA Auto Industry Awards 2009, 1st
Place in Asian Auto-Mudah.my Fuel Efficiency Awards 2009 in the Compact City
Cars Category with a combined fuel efficiency of 5.0l/100 km, which is not only the
best performance in its category but also throughout all the participating vehicles in
Malaysia. The Hyundai i10 also won the New Straits Times / Maybank Car of the
Year Award in the Entry Level Car category two times consecutively in 2009 and
2010.
In 2008, Hyundai commemorated 10 years of operations in India by initiating a
transcontinental drive from Delhi to Paris in two of its i10 Kappa cars. The drive
covered a distance of 10,000 kilometres (6,200 mi) in just 17 days after which the
i10s were showcased at the Paris Motor Show in October.
In 2009, the i10 became a popular buy in the UK during the Government Scrappage
Scheme.
In 2013, leading automotive portal CarDekho awarded Hyundai i10 as 'Most Popular
Hatchback' in India.

The amount of safety features varies from market to market. While most countries
have the i10 equipped with airbags for all passengers, the entry-level 1.1 manual
transmission model in the Philippines can be sold without airbags.
Since launch and as of August 2009, electronic stability control (ESC) is still a
special-order option for UK spec cars which prevents a full 5-star EuroNCAP score.

Hyundai developed the second generation i10, which was originally planned for
release in early 2014. Development of the new i10 started in India in 2012, using
the Kia Picanto as a test mule for individual parts.
In August 2013, the i10's redesign was revealed by Hyundai's European design team
led by Thomas Bürkle. The new car is 80 mm (3.1 in) longer, 65 mm (2.6 in) wider
and 50 mm (2.0 in) lower than the outgoing model. The new dimensions result in a
trunk space increase by 10%, totaling to 252 liters. Most versions can seat five
occupants. The new car made its debut at the 2013 Frankfurt Motor Show.[The i10
arrived in European showrooms in January 2014.
The engines offered on the European model will be as follows:
 1.0-liter three-cylinder petrol with 66 HP (48 kW) and 94 Nm (69 lb-ft) of
torque

Hyundai Grand i10
Hyundai Motor India Ltd. released the new model in September 2013 as the Grand
i10; it slots between the first generation i10, which will continue to be manufactured
for the Indian market, and the i20. The Grand i10 differentiates from the European
model with its wheelbase increase by 100 mm (3.9 in). The Grand i10 was launched
in September at prices ranging from Rs. 4.29 Lakhs to Rs. 6.41 lakhs.
The Grand i10 is available with three engine options:
 1.1 liter three-cylinder U2 CRDi diesel
 1.2 liter four-cylinder petrol

On February 2014, Hyundai Asia Resources, Inc. (HARI) announced details on the
Philippine-market version of the Grand i10. The U2 CRDi engine will not be offered
in the country; instead, the base models come with the 1.0 liter three-cylinder petrol
engine while the 1.2 liter four-cylinder engine is reserved for the range-topping L
automatic transmission model.
The Grand i10 offers host of features like dual-toned interiors, enlarged cabin space,
keyless entry, push button on/off and auto folding outside mirrors that automatically
open and fold when car is unlocked and locked. In addition, the car is equipped with
rear AC vents and 1GB internal memory to store music, which are both first in its
segment.
In early 2014, Hyundai released the Grand i10 in Mexico. The car is offered with
only the 1.2 liter four-cylinder engine in the market.

 1.0 E (5MT)
 1.0 S (5MT)
 1.0 S (4AT)
 1.0 L (4AT)
 1.2 L (4AT)
Marketing and positioning
The Grand i10 is positioned to compete with the Maruti Swift in India and other
similar cars in the segment.] In the Philippines, the Grand i10 is in competition with
the Mitsubishi Mirage and Toyota Wigo.

Reception
The European i10 was met with very positive reviews. John McIlroy of What
Car? magazine gave the car a perfect five-star rating, commenting that it "represents
a major step forward over its predecessor – to the point where it's an extremely
tempting alternative to a VW Up, and not just on price."[Piers Ward of Top
Gear gave the i10 a score of 8 out of 10, with his verdict being: "Yet another quality
car from the Koreans. Cheap price, good design and with minimal
compromise." Matt Burt of Autocar gave it four-and-a-half out of five stars, calling
it "one of the most accomplished and well-rounded offerings in the city car segment,
and has road manners that would embarrass a few much larger (and more expensive)
vehicles." Andrew English of The Daily Telegraph also gave the car four out of five
stars, describing it as "Clever and quite a nice little car. Reasonable comfort, ride,
handling and well put together, though not the most economical. It's certainly the
best car Hyundai makes and wouldn't be disgraced as the family's main transport."
Awards
In India, the Grand i10 was awarded the 2014 Golden Steering Wheel in the
hatchback category. It was also awarded "Car of the Year" and "Entry Hatchback of
the Year" at the 2014 NDTV Car and Bike Awards. In the Philippines, the Grand
i10 was awarded Best Mini Car of the Year by the Car Awards Group for 2014-
2015.

FINDINGS
 Most of the people prefer diesel car over petrol while in some situation where
the car is not frequently used the petrol car will be the preferred one .my
findings shows that the diesel car is mostly sold in the area.
 Mileage for the car affects the sales of car as the people prefer the mileage the
most influensive factor.
 Hyundai provides the basic safety features such as airbag, abs, parking
assistant, impact sensing auto door unlock
 Airbag is provided with basic model onwards in compared to competitive
models. Also abs is an unavoidable factor in which the safety is concerned
 The leaders of market are concerned more about the looks rather than the
safety features but Hyundai cars are all equipped with full basic safety factors.
 As the looks are concerned the grand i10 brings the superiority in the segment
because of its diamond cutted alloy wheels, cascade design grille LED DRLs

 Warranty for a product is the most important factor Hyundai grand i10
provides with 3 years and unlimited kms which is quite appreciable this will
brings customer loyalty and competitive advantage over other brands.
 The service cost incurred for the product is less for FIGO , LIVA , GRAND
i10, BEAT and for SWIFT , POLO,KUV 100, IGNIS ,TIAGO the cost is
pretty higher.
 I found an interesting thing is that the employees in the showrooms are well
dressed in formals. This creates a good interaction between the customers and
representatives.
 The white colour the showrooms are adopting creates a good ambience for
the customers.
 The manufactures are well aware of the needs of the customers as they all
brings the latest feature and innovative design to their product.
 The refreshment provided by company will help to gain customer relationship
ore stronger also creates an informal way of communication.
 The customers are always searching for good offers the company that gives
the customers the best offers are being successful in creating a deal.
 The resale value for the product is another major factor luckily the grand i10
is one of the highest resale value in the market.
 All the hatchback models are being targeted on the middle class customers but
POLO , GRAND i10 sports , LIVA LE are targeted on the youngsters.
 Customers feel more comfortable if facilities such as T.V. and automotive
related magazines are provided at the customer lounge.
 Providing a small area in the showroom for kids to spend time while their
parents are waiting for services is a good way to create customer loyalty and
increase brand value. The kids zone may consist of puzzles, video games,
dolls, etc.
 Creating mobile application :
 Creates customer to know the details of the product their maintenance cost
and all
 To know the progress of the service
 To add extra service from home itself without even contacting them.
 It can be used to collect feedback from the customer after each service.
Rating scales can be provided to the customer to rate the different aspects
of the service.

 Promotion of various offers regarding service or sales.

SUGESTIONS
 The area where the company should focus is the delivery time so this is the
area which I recommend to the showroom to focus a little bit more .it need to
improve its delivery process and time .
 After sales service is the main problem a customer is facing after purchase
even though the customer are already purchased the product the company
should build a strong customer loyalty so that they refer the product to their
friends also.
 Distributing merchandises such as caps, T-shirts, watches, etc helps to
increase customer loyalty and customer satisfaction.
 It is good to provide customers who visit the showroom for the first time with
a map which shows the locations of various service centers of Popular
Hyundai in Kerala or India. It should also contain the contact details of these
service centers and road side assistance if any.
 Green marketing is one of new concepts under marketing. Providing E-
catalogues and E-brochures instead of paper based ones is a good way to kick
of such a campaign
 If the organization has won awards in various areas of performance, it is good
share this sense of accomplishment with the customers by maintaining a
trophy stand. It also helps to create a good impression in the minds of the
customer.
 There are some models of Hyundai which are sold in foreign markets and not
in India. These vehicles may be luxury or sports models. Displaying their bill
boards in the showroom or add in a T.V. is a method of image creation.

CONCLUSION

With respect to the above study and findings thereby , the company has definitely
entrenched into the urban market .with few more concerned efforts , the said
organisation needs to enter the rural market in order to completely establish itself all
over. The above study will help the consumers to get more awareness about Hyundai
cars and it will also help to Hyundai to capture the market of urban as well as rural
markets.
