Abstract (Maximum 250 words, excluding spaces. Abstracts exceeding 250 words will be
returned. Keywords are not required).

Small non-volant mammals perform varied ecological functions. As much as they are
dependent on their natural environment, they also influence the nutrient dynamics of
ecosystems as well as distributions of plant populations. Species diversity of small
non-volant mammals among three agricultural ecosystems in SOCSARGEN Region,
each with distinct agricultural crops grown, were documented and compared using
baited trap sampling method. An over-all species richness of eight (8) belonging to
families Muridae and Viverridae constituting 8% of the total small non-volant
mammalian species in the Philippines with 50% endemic were documented. The
endemic Rattus everetti (Common Philippine forest rat) was the dominant and most
abundant species among the three sites. Species diversity and evenness is low and
differ among sites as influenced by the level and type of crop production. This study
provides vital information about the current diversity and composition of small non-
volant mammals across agricultural sites essential for the proper management in
harmony with crop production and diversity conservation.
