    O horizon - plant litter at various levels of decomposition and humus.

    A horizon - humus and other organic materials are mixed with mineral particles
    (eluviation)

    B horizon - a mineral soil layer (illuviation).

    C horizon - weathered parent material.

    R horizon – unweathered bedrock.

    Parent material is the underlying geological material in which


    soil horizons form.
