Feelings of stress and anxiety are a part of life. Some levels of stress can actually
be good for us, However when stress and anxiety exist for an extended period of
time, they can become a burden or even a health risk. Now our point of interest
is, I am studying about university students suffering from anxiety, because of lack
of social and sports activities in university. For e.g sleeplessness, restlessness,
and tiredness every time. And the main objectives of our study is to find out, “is
there is any anxiety or other problems arises for students or not?? and what type
of mental or physical problems arises for them?? And what type of facilities they
need to get rid of these physical and mental issues or diseases. For this purpose
we selected a specific study population, the students of gomal university. We
prepare a questionnaire for the students of different departments, to find out the
answers of the above questions. we see that about 80% of the students suffering
from different physical and mental diseases, and the reason is lack of regular
exercises, sports and social activities in gomal university. And about 65% of the
students of gomal university are Smokers because of allots of free time, they have
nothing to do, so due to which they joined Bad companies, and then they started
smoking. So it is necessary that the organization will provide a healthy facilities to
the students, so they will perform well in their educational and practical life.

when stress and anxiety exist for an extended period of time, they can become a
burden or even a health risk. Stress produces a physiological reaction in your
body. Hormones are released, which results in physical manifestations of stress.
In university level students.most of the university students suffering from anxiety,
because of lack of social and sports activities in university for e.g sleeplessness,
restless etc.. And the main objectives of our study is to find out, “is there is any
anxiety or other problems arises for students or not? and what type of mental or

CHAPTER: 2- LITERATURE REVIEW
Literature review :
Most of the psychologists have realized the great dangers threatening the society
especially from the youth in the absence of systematic measures for the
improvement of social and sports activities. Education scholars warn that if
enough attention is not paid to how leisure time is spent, irreversible
abnormalities appear in the behaviors and actions and consequently personalities
of individuals. These can result in distortions and social deviance. Many
researchers have indicated the benefits of exercising in leisure time. Mariani et al.
(2009) stated that there is an inverse relationship between physical activities in
leisure time and the level of depression in individuals in a way that the level of
depression is decreased with increase in physical activity [4]. A research
conducted in Canada indicated that participating in athletic activities can increase
students self confidence. Karim and Alfred (2008) concluded in their research that
there is a significant relationship between physical activities in leisure time and
health indicators [6]. Las (1987) believe that public and recreational sports
improve the quality of life of university students [7]. Lampkin (1991) after doing a
research on university students declared that the participation of university
3
students in recreational and public activities helps them achieve the required
balance between physical, mental and social potentials [8]. Smith (1991) after his
research declared that public exercise helps improve students’ level of learning in
their academic work [9]. Dike Roeger (1992) in an article entitled “what has
happened to universities’ extracurricular programs?” suggested that
extracurricular programs in student dormitories and universities be altered and
developed according to the interests and needs of university students [15].
According to the above cases and the role and importance of sports in spending
leisure time, the goal of this research is to study the place of sports and physical
education in leisure time. Leisure time is an effective means for the development
of mental, physical and moral stamina of individuals and is considered as a factor
in the prevention of social distortions provided that enough attention is paid to it
from university organizations and have to provide a healthy sports and social
activities. Otherwise with the exploitation of leisure time and conscious or
subconscious adverse policies from the authorities can result in social
damages.Students’ choice of free-time activities can have a considerable effect on
their personality development and quality of life in the adult years. Free-time is a
wide concept which encompasses numerous activities that take place beyond
working hours (in this case studying). This is a more common term than the term
»leisure time,« which implies only amusement sports and social activities.
Because healthy, amusement, and personality development are the basic
functions of free time, it is of great significance to investigate free-time activities
and their importance and role in university students’ life.
The overall physical activity level of university students in the USA is similar to the
level in the general population (40% adults participating in no physical activity in
free time)5. Several other studies have shown a somewhat higher percentage
(40–50%) of students who were not physically active. It has also been shown the
students does, not take part in sports and social activities and there are two main
reasons, one of them is, there is no such environment provided to the students,
23% in United States. As we know though regular recreation activity contributes
to prevention of some diseases, health improvement, and improvement of quality
4
of life, it has still not become an integral part of strategies targeted at student
population. Therefore, the main goal of this research is to examine the attitudes
of university students on sports activities in their free time.
CHAPTER :3 -Methodology
It was a survey type study, which largely focused on “due to lack of social and
sport centers in university causes stressful environment” and the main objectives

anxiety or other problems arises for students or not? and what type of mental or
physical problems arises for them?? And what type of facilities they need to get
rid of these physical and mental issues or diseases. . Quantitative approach was
used for the collection of data. The data was presented in the form of graph and
further elaborated in percentages.
