ROMAR DAVE RANO BSE RE 3

CATHOLIC TRADITION SUMMARY REPORT

• Catholics recognize the authority of both Sacred Scripture and Sacred Tradition.
• These are two ways of transmitting Divine Revelation.
• Christ commissioned the Apostles to preach the Gospel everywhere.
• Their teaching authority was passed on to the popes and bishops who succeeded them.
• This living transmission of the Good News is called Sacred Tradition.
• In the Catholic perspective, tradition refers to both ACTUAL PROCESS OF HANDLING
ON THE FAITH as well as THE LIVING HERITAGE.
• “The church in her doctrine, life and worship transmits to every generation all that she
herself believes.”
• The Holy Spirit has a great role in the passing of the Good News which handed through
generation s authentically interpreted by the Magesterium, the teaching office of the
church.
• Tradition includes all the Christian practices such as: The study, Preaching social action,
Witness Life of the church in her belief, And her prayer.
• An adequate theology of tradition shows how e elation is at once complete, perfect, and
present, not just a memory of something long past.
• In Christ God has manifested Himself perfectly once and for all.
• The experience of the apostolic community which knew Christ in the flesh as well as in
faith remains normative for judging and interpreting the object of catholic faith.
• Revelation in the context of the living traditions involves a developing process of
clarifying and actualizing the Word by articulating through human insights and culture.
• Scripture and Tradition work together to achieve the same goal.
• They both reveal God to us, so we must respect both.
• Faith’s three dimnesions- doctrine, moral and worship – flow from Christ who is THE
TRUTH showing us the WAY which is the Moral, sharing with us his LIFE in the
sacraments of prayer. Entering into these three dimensions of living faith means sharing
in the very mission of Christ as PROPHET, KING and PRIEST.
