THE ROMAN CATHOLICISM

ROMAN CATHOLICISM

Roman Catholicism is the oldest and largest branch of Christianity. There are
more than 1 billion Catholics worldwide. The Roman Catholic Church is led by
the pope. The pope rules the church from Vatican City, which is a separate country
inside Rome, Italy.

The Roman Catholic Church is an ancient religious institution boasting over a

billion members worldwide. As such, it is the largest Christian ecclesiastical body
in the world. Because of this alone, it is important to accurately understand the
Roman Catholic Church’s history and beliefs.
THE PILLAR OF CATHOLIC

Pillars of the church serve the body of Christ

motivated by a sincere love for the Lord Jesus and
his church. These pillars are Creed, Prayer,
Sacraments, and Morality
CREED
A creed, also known as a confession of faith, a
symbol, or a statement of faith, is a statement of
the shared beliefs of a community (often a
religious community) in a form which is
structured by subjects which summarize its core
tenets.
PRAYER
Prayer is talking to God. Christians believe that
God created everyone to be in relationship with
him, and that he loves to hear from each one of
us as often as possible.
SACRAMENTS
There are seven sacraments in the Church:
Baptism, Confirmation or Chrismation,
Eucharist, Penance, Anointing of the Sick, Holy
Orders, and Matrimony."
MORALITY
Christian morality is a set of moral standards
based on the teachings of the Bible, especially
the teachings of Jesus
DOGMAS

Dogma became the traditional term for truths

believed to be indispensable to the Christian
faith. The question of what precisely counts as
dogma is bound up with questions of
pronouncement and reception.
HER DIVINE MOTHERHOOD
MARY IS PROPERLY CALLED THE
MOTHER OF GOD. BECAUSE HER SON,
JESUS CHRIST, IS BOTH TRUE GOD AND
TRUE MAN. NEVER DID CHRIST GIVE UP
ANY OF HIS TWO NATURES SINCE HIS
INCARNATION.
HER PERPETUAL VIRGINITY
The perpetual virginity of Mary is a Christian
doctrine that Mary, the mother of Jesus, was a virgin
"before, during and after" the birth of Christ. In
Western Christianity, the Catholic Church adheres to
the doctrine, as do some Lutherans, Anglicans,
Reformed, and other Protestants.
HER IMMACULATE CONCEPTION
The Immaculate Conception is the belief that the
Virgin Mary was free of original sin from the
moment of her conception. It is one of the four
Marian dogmas of the Catholic Church. Debated
by medieval theologians, it was not defined as a
dogma until 1854.
HER ASSUMPTION, BODY & SOUL
The dogma of the Assumption teaches that at the
end of her time on earth, Mary was taken up
body and soul into heaven. There, she sits at her
Son’s right hand, as Queen of Heaven and Earth.
