1. A mondat elemei
1
Az angol mondat elemeinek, a mondatrészeknek tehát adott a helyük a mondatban,
nem cserélhetőek fel a beszélő szándékától függően. Ezt a mondatfelépítést
KÖTÖTT SZÓRENDNEK nevezzük.
alany + állítmány + tárgy + időhatározó + helyhatározó
A toldalékok
elöljárószavakat a főnevek elé illesztjük, ellentétben a magyarban megszokottól, ahol a
toldalékok a főnév végére kerülnek.

1. a múltban megtörtént egyszeri, lezárult cselekvések kifejezésére
-ed végződést kapnak: stay, want, rain, start, turn, answer, ask, stb.
-d végződést kapnak a mgh-ra végződő igék: arrive, hate, love, change, stb.
Pl: pay → paid, drink → drank, tell →told, make → made, stb

Mother Teresa was born in Skopje, Macedonia, on 26th August, 1910. Her name was
Agnes B. Bajaxhiu. She had a sister, Age, and a brother, Lazar. It was an ordinary,
happy family. They had a comfortable life. Agnes’s father was a good businessman.
Her mother was strict but very kind. The family was Roman Catholic and very
religious. They went to church almost every day. Agnes’s mother taught her children
to pray and to help other people. They often took food and money to the poor people
of Skopje. Early in her life Agnes learned love and kindness from her mother.
Her father died when she was only nine. Her mother opened a shop and the business
did really well. In 1924 Agnes and her sister started going to secondary school.
Agnes soon made a decision about her future. She wanted to become a nun. In those
days nuns did not go home to visit their families. Agnes’s mother, however,
understood her daughter’s wish.
In 1928 she went to India, where she taught in a school and worked in a hospital.
Sister Teresa lived for almost 20 years in Calcutta. She saw some really terrible
things there. She tried to help the dying and the homeless in the streets of Calcutta’s
slums. For sister Teresa other people’s needs always came before her own safety.

Utaztál már repülővel?
Mindhárom esetben olyan cselekvésekről van szó, melyeknek van valamilyen kapcsolata a
jelennel, kihatnak arra.

Vocabulary
Is it better to live in the country or in the city? It is difficult to answer this question.
People in the country are friendlier than town people. They are closer to nature and
their lives are generally quieter. The streets and shops are not so crowded as they
are in big towns. There are fewer people but they know one another better and they
are more patient and considerate than town people.
You can lead a healthier life in the country than in the city. There is less noise and
less pollution. The air is cleaner and you can take long walks in the fields and
forests. Life is safer and more peaceful.
But a peaceful life can get boring sometimes. Town life is much faster and more
exciting. That’s why most people prefer living in towns. There are more shops and
better facilities for entertainment. You can always do something interesting: go to a
café, dance in a disco or go to the cinema.
It is more expensive to live in a town and sometimes it is also more dangerous. The
bigger the city the less safe it is. And there are also more problems: traffic jams, air
pollution and homelessness.
