Manager is an individual person who strikes goals and achievements through subordinate.
Manager and its subordinate works in an organization. How the goals achieved depends on how
the attitude of employees over particular goals. To do that, managers need to learn about
people’s behavior. The more people learn about others behavior, the better the understanding of
managing employees. Managers’ work is basically about planning, organizing, leading and
controlling. Manager has roles in order to work with the employees, the Interpersonal role of
manager is as Figurehead, Leader and Liaison; Informational role as Monitor, Disseminator and
Spokesperson; and the decisional role of manager is Entrepreneur, Disturbance handler, and
Negotiator. Another thing an organization need of a manager is technical skills, human skills,
and conceptual skills.
Behavioral science of psychology, social psychology, social and anthropology is needed
in order to achieve a study of organizational behavior so people can learn about other humans
and animals. The challenges and opportunity in adapting Organizational Behavior concepts may
vary. Some challenges are working with different cultural people, assigned to other foreign
region, or adapting to different cultural preferences. Despite the challenges, it is an opportunity
to develop skills, ethical behavior or employees’ well-being at work.
Diversity at work is sometimes being underestimated by managers. There are 2 levels of
diversity, surface-level diversity where there are differences in age, race, age, ethnicity or
disability; and the other level is deep-level diversity which differentiate in value, personality and
work preferences. Discrimination happened at work whether intentionally or unintentionally.
Employee often receive sexual harassment, intimidation, insults, exclusion, or disrespectful
treatment. Recognizing diversity and avoiding discrimination can be challenging to managers.
By looking at characteristics, managers can differ employees’ capability. Biographical
characteristics can be differentiated as age, gender, race and disability, other characteristics can
be tenure, religion, sexual orientation and cultural identity. The problem of diversity must be
handled by manager in order to avoid any harassment in an organization, so employees can enjoy
working and goals can be easily achieved.
